Manderscheid named to Wamac first team

Marion senior Jacob Manderscheid was named to the eight-player all-Wamac West Division first team, the league announced on Wednesday.

Junior Baylor Fish was a second-team selection.

Seniors Ryan Whalen and Noah Walter were honorable mention picks.

Rally ends Marion's season in OT

DUBUQUE - Kyle Wright scored 15 points and Ryan Trainer added 13 as West Delaware rallied from a nine-point halftime deficit to down Marion, 55-47, in a Class 3A district contest Monday night at Wahlert High School.

Jacob Manderscheid scored 14 and Baylor Fish added 11 for the Indians, who close their season at 9-13.

West Delaware (16-6) made only 15 field goals, but six came from beyond the 3-point line, compared to just three treys for Marion.

MARION (47): Fish 2 7-7 11, Zielke 1 4-4 6, Walter 2 0-0 5, Manderscheid 4 6-6 14, Mohwinkle 2 0-1 6, Wiese 2 1-4 5. Totals 13 18-22 47.

Marion boys fall to West Delaware

MANCHESTER – Baylor Fish scored nine points to lead the Marion boys basketball team in a 49-33 loss to West Delaware in a Wamac non-division game Tuesday at West Delaware.

The Indians (9-12, 7-7) trailed 27-13 at halftime and couldn’t get rolling on offense. Jacob Manderscheid and Mitch Wiese added eight points apiece for Marion.

John Nagel scored 19 points for West Delaware (15-6).

Marion boys trimmed by Vinton-Shellsburg

Tyler Stueck scored 14 points Monday night to help Vinton-Shellsburg trim Marion, 38-34, in a Wamac Conference basketball game at Marion.

Jacob Manderscheid led Marion with 13 points. Chase Zielke had 10 points for the Indians (9-11, 7-7).

The Vikings raised their records to 14-7 overall and 10-4 in the league.

VINTON-SHELLSBURG (38): Noeller 1 2-2 4, Smith 1 0-0 2, Bohnsack 1 1-2 4, Stueck 3 8-9 14, Bartz 0 0-0 0, Womochil 2 3-4 8, Struve 0 0-0 0, Rippel 2 2-2 6, Edwards 0 0-0 0. Totals 10 16-19 38.

Marion boys edge Clear Creek Amana

TIFFIN – The Marion boys basketball team rallied from a 36-29 deficit with seven minutes to play and beat Clear Creek Amana, 43-41, in a Wamac game Tuesday at Clear Creek Amana.

The Indians trailed by as many as 12 points in the first half, but fought back to take a 26-23 lead in the third quarter in the back-and-forth contest.

Chase Zielke scored 19 points to lead the Indians (9-10, 7-6). Jacob Manderscheid added nine points and Baylor Fish scored eight.

The Clippers fell to 11-8 overall.

MARION (43): Fish 2 0-0 8, Zielke 7 0-0 19, Walter 1 1-1 3, Manderscheid 3 2-2 9, Wahlen 0 0-0 0, Pflughaupt 0 0-0 0, Chris Mohwinkle 0 0-0 0, Wiese 0 4-4 4. Totals 14 7-7 43.
