2nd-ranked Mustangs too much for Indians

Mount Vernon ran out to a 24-point halftime lead and the Mustangs trampled Marion, 64-40, Friday night in a Wamac Conference girls basketball game at Marion.

Mount Vernon (13-1, 12-0 Wamac) led 40-16 at halftime. The Mustangs are ranked second in Class 3A and their only loss has been to 4A second-ranked Linn-Mar.

Beth Knapp's nine points led Marion (4-10, 4-9). The Indians had their three-game winning streak snapped.

Peyton sparks Marion to 3rd straight win


TIFFIN -- Dani Peyton scored 22 points Tuesday night to help Marion beat Clear Creek Amana, 56-43, in a Wamac Conference game for its third straight victory.

Peyton scored 18 points in the first half, including 11 straight for the Indians (4-9, 4-8). Micaela Combs collected 13 points for Marion and Kristin Kramer netted 10.

Alyssa Mougin led Clear Creek Amana (2-12, 1-10) with 14 points.

Marion - Girls Basketball

Peyton, Kramer and Knapp lead Indians to win

Dani Peyton scored 19 points to lead a trio of Marion scorers in double figures that carried the Indians past Vinton-Shellsburg, 59-48, in a Wamac Conference girls basketball game at Marion.

Kristin Kramer and Beth Knapp added 14 points apiece for Marion (3-9, 3-8 Wamac).

Marion took control of the game over the second and third quarters, when it outscored the Vikettes (6-6, 6-5) 33-13 and built a 48-28 lead.

Peyton, Smith help Marion sail by Columbus

WATERLOO -- Dani Peyton scored 17 points and Leah Smith added 15 Tuesday
night as Marion clipped Waterloo Columbus, 64-48, in a Wamac Conference
game in Waterloo.

Marion (2-9, 2-8) paraded to the foul line and made 21 of 29 free throws,
compared to just 4 of 8 for the hosts.

Wahlert routs Marion girls

DUBUQUE -- Wahlert had four girls score in double figures and routed Marion, 70-26, Jan. 8 in a nonconference girls basketball game.

The loss was the ninth straight for Xavier since a season-opening win at Dyersville Beckman.

Wahlert (6-5) won its fifth straight game. The Golden Eagles made only 8 of 27 free throws, but hit 29 of 57 field goals and were 4 of 10 on 3-pointers.
