Rice wins Metro Spotlight Award

Chloe Rice of Marion is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award this week for high school girls, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Rice, a 5-foot-10 sophomore, is a key member of the Marion basketball team that is ranked No. 7 in Class 4A with an 11-4 record.

Rice, a lanky point guard, is averaging 15.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.7 steals for the Indians. She ranks third in the Wamac Conference West Division in scoring, third in steals and fifth in assists.

Marion - Girls Basketball

Rice nets 29 for No. 7 Indians

WILLIAMSBURG – Chloe Rice poured in 29 points to lead the seventh-ranked Marion girls basketball team to a 73-35 win over Williamsburg in a Wamac game Friday.

Mia Laube scored 11 points for the Indians (11-4), who led 22-7 after the first quarter and finished with 11 3-point goals.

The Raiders fell to 4-11.

Kennedy girls stay No. 1 in rankings

The Cedar Rapids Kennedy girls basketball team remained No. 1 in the Class 5A girls basketball rankings, released Thursday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

Linn-Mar fell from 12th to 13th in Class 5A. Marion remained No. 7 in Class 4A.

No. 7 Marion girls roll by Independence

The seventh-ranked Marion girls basketball nailed eleven 3-point goals and beat Independence, 62-27, in a Wamac game Tuesday at Marion.

Caitlyn Smith made five 3-pointers for 15 points for Marion. Mia Laube scored 10 points for the Indians (10-4), who led 30-9 early in the second quarter.

Independence fell to 6-9.

No. 7 Marion girls top Clear Creek

TIFFIN – The seventh-ranked Marion girls basketball came back from a 25-21 halftime deficit to beat Clear Creek Amana, 54-41, in a Wamac game Friday at Clear Creek Amana.

The Indians fought back in the second half to lead 34-31 at the end of the third quarter and ended the game on a 20-10 run.

Chloe Rice scored 17 points for Marion (9-4), Mia Laube had 11 and Maddie Knapp added 10.

Abbi Kinnaird scored 15 points to lead the Clippers (5-8).
