Blood, Sturtz top all-Metro bowling

Rylee Blood of Prairie and Hunter Sturtz of Jefferson have been honored as the Athletes of the Year on the all-Metro bowling teams, as selected by the Metro coaches.

Prairie girls claimed three of seven spots on the all-Metro first team with Blood, Ashley Sundstrom and Sabrina Keiper. Shania Christensen of Washington, Bre Smith of Marion, Mekena Diercks of Linn-Mar and Jamie Milota of Kennedy also made the first team.

Alex Diercks of Linn-Mar, James Jambois of Kennedy, Matt Galloro of Prairie, Jarrett Steward of Marion, Jacob Fulton of Xavier and Charlie Hart of Xavier joined Sturtz on the all-Metro first team for boys.

Don Willfong of Prairie was named the girls Coach of the Year and Mat Fowler of Jefferson was named the boys Coach of the Year.

Kaitlyn Earley (Prairie), Alexis Tschantz (Linn-Mar), Jade Klinefelter (Prairie), Alexis Smith (Marion), Megan Kitzmiller (Jefferson), Tanya Zaugg (Xavier).

Fulton earns trip to state bowling

Xavier junior Jacob Fulton was the individual champion and earned a berth to the state bowling tournament by rolling a 223 game and 435 series in a Class 2A qualifier meet Tuesday at May City Bowl.

Waverly-Shell Rock won the team title with 2,898 pins and earned the automatic team berth. Independence shot 2,862 for second, Marion was third with 2,840 and Xavier shot 2,761.

Dakota Timmerman led the Indians with a 235 game and 416 series.

Timmerman rolls 469 series for Indians

Dakota Timmerman rolled a big 469 series for the Marion Indians Monday in a 2916-2805 loss to Western Dubuque in a Wamac Conference meet at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

Timmerman had games of 234 and 235 for Marion (4-7). Dylan Nash had a 431 series for Marion with games of 216 and 215.

Ethan Kluesner rolled a 415 series for Western Dubuque (8-4).

WESTERN DUBUQUE: Tony Kluesner 190+169=359, Ethan Kluesner 213+202=415, Adam Simon 157+185=362, Brandon Gansen 202+192=394, Nick Wuchter 235+177=412, Ross Wedewer 148+209=357.

Marion boys nipped by Independence

INDEPENDENCE – The Marion boys bowling team narrowly lost to Independence, 2,497-2,439, in a Wamac meet Friday at Lucky 10 Lanes.

Nate Meister rolled a 343 series for the Indians and Hunter Johnson had a 341.

Andrew Hermsen led Independence with a 385 series.

MARION: Nate Meister 180-163=343, Hunter Johnson 154-187=341, Dylan Nash 159-175=334, Braden Walter 173-159=332, Dakota Timmerman 144-157=301, Parker Ridge 160-122=292.

Stewart notches 464 series for Indians

Jarrett Stewart had a 233 game and a 464 series to lead the Marion boys bowling team to a 3,130 to 2,420 victory over Denver in a non-conference meet Thursday at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

Dakota Timmerman rolled a 433 series for the Indians and Dylan Nash followed with a 427.

Mason Rapien had a 345 series for the Cyclones.
