Shrine Bowl will be Albaugh's last hurrah

Dusty Albaugh has been practicing for Saturday's 39th Annual Shrine Bowl with guys who will play college football this fall for teams all over the midwest, but this probably will be the last time he plays in an organized game.

Albaugh thought about college football and had several offers from junior colleges and Iowa Conference schools, but he's decided to enroll at Iowa State University as a regular student and not pursue an athletic career in college.

Unless he changes his mind or something dramatic happens, the Marion High School senior will play for the North squad Saturday night at Jack Trice Stadium in Ames and then hang up the pads for good.

Lipsett signs with SW Minnesota

Marion High School senior Curran Lipsett has signed a national letter-of-intent with Southwest Minnesota State as a punter and placekicker.

Lipsett punted 13 times for a 43.4-yard average for the Indians last season. He had 52 kickoffs, with nine touchbacks, and also hit a 37-yard field goal.

Lipsett said four players could be competing for the punting and placekicking chores at Southwest Minnesota State next season. "It's going to be pretty wide open," he said.

Lipsett said he also considered Upper Iowa, Coe, Buena Vista, Dubuque and Wisconsin-Platteville.

Southwest Minnesota State is an NCAA Division II school that competes in the Northern Sun Conference.
