Indians ousted by Mount Vernon, 1-0

Marion gave up an early goal to Mount Vernon that it could not counter and the Indians fell to the Mustangs, 1-0, Monday in a Class 2A first round substate boys soccer game at Marion.

Marion ended its season at 6-10.

The Indians had tying chances. But Enoch Duval's shot in the first half hit the crossbar, and Mount Vernon cleared a Marion corner kick from the goal line late in the first half.

Marion falls to 2 late goals by West Liberty

WEST LIBERTY -- Marion finished out its regular season Thursday with a 4-2 loss to West Liberty in boys soccer.

Enoch Duval and Daniel Tribble scored goals for Marion.

West Liberty took a quick 2-0 lead in the first half. Duval's goal off a ball played from Ryan Hagen pulled Marion within 2-1 at halftime.

Marion tied the game off a corner kick in the second half. Spencer Hennessee played the ball back in off the kick and Duval one-timed a kick that West Liberty's keeper saved. Tribble picked up the deflection with a smooth shot into the net that knotted the score, 2-2.

West Liberty scored two fast goals and put the game away.

Marion missed two penalty shots in the game.

Marion is 6-9. The Indians host Mount Vernon in a Class 2A substate game Monday.

Duval scores 4 goals in Marion win

Enoch Duval scored four goals, the last in the second overtime, to lift Marion past Maquoketa, 4-3, Monday in boys soccer at Marion.

Marion fell behind 1-0 before three straight Duval goals put the Indians ahead 3-1 at halftime.

Maquoketa scored twice in the second half to tie the game and force overtime.

Duval scored the game winner on  a pass from Bruno Genovese in the second overtime.

Danie Tribble, Carter Stigge and Dalton Ott also had assists for Marion.

Marion is 6-8 overall and 4-7 in the Wamac.

Marion upset bid comes up short against Beckman

Dyersville Beckman, ranked No. 1 in Class 1A, scored three goals in the second half and shrugged off a determined Marion upset bid, 4-1, Friday at Marion.

Marion struck first, scoring three minutes into the game on a give-and-go by Daniel Tribble and Enoch Duval, who banged the ball into the net.

The Indians had other scoring opportunities in the half that they were unable to capitalize upon, and Beckman slipped in a goal in the final minute of the period to tie the game, 1-1.

Marion keeper Will Byers made several big saves in the game.  He ended with 15 saves.

Fast start sends CCA past Marion boys

TIFFIN -- Clear Creek Amana scored five goals in the first half and beat Maion, 5-0, Tuesday in Wamac boys soccer.

Marion is 5-7 overall, 3-6 in the Wamac.
