Metro girls saluted in district soccer

The Linn-Mar Lions and Xavier Saints grabbed five spots apiece on the all-district soccer teams, the Iowa Girls Coaches Association announced Monday.

The Lions, ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, placed Jensen Sevening, Olivia Garcia and goalie Rylie Frese on the Class 3A East first team. Claire Larson and Malory Garman were named second team all-district. Steve Dickinson of Linn-Mar was named the Co-Coach of the Year.

The Saints, ranked No. 3 in Class 2A, were represented on the Class 2A East team by Marissa Berutti. Elizabeth Bailey, Katie Ives, Sydney Wright and goalie Holly Hazelton were named to the second team from Xavier.

Hannah Kousheh of Prairie and Kaela Dickerman of Kennedy were named first team all-district in Class 3A. Morgan Petsche and Sydney Hayden of Kennedy, Shalyn Kinney of Jefferson and goalie Hannah Schroeder of Washington were second-team picks.

Amanda Sahm, Erica Kelly and Madison Bach of Marion were named second team all-district in Class 2A East.

Bach nets 4 goals for No. 15 Indians

The 15th-ranked Marion girls soccer team defeated Western Dubuque at home Friday night, 5-0.

Maddie Bach scored four of the five goals. Saige Trca added the fifth as well as an assist.

Additional assists came from Maddie Chambers (2), Haley Clifton, and Ariel Carter.

Abby Phillips made six saves and recorded her fifth straight clean sheet.

Marion girls join soccer rankings

The Marion High School girls soccer team popped into the state rankings in the No. 15 spot in Class 2A Friday, according to the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

The Indians (7-4) were not ranked last week.

The Xavier Saints dropped one spot in the Class 2A rankings to No. 3. Waverly-Shell Rock and North Scott are ranked 1-2 in Class 2A.

Linn-Mar held onto the No. 2 spot in Class 3A and Prairie remained No. 10 in Class 3A. Bettendorf topped the 3A rankings again.

1. Bettendorf (14-1), 2. Linn-Mar (13-0), 3. Iowa City West (11-1), 4. West Des Moines Valley (9-3), 5. Dowling Catholic (9-4), 6. Dubuque Hempstead (12-2), 7. Johnston (12-3), 8. Waukee (11-2), 9. Muscatine (10-3), 10. Prairie (11-3).

Marion - Girls Soccer

Marion girls sink Maquoketa, 1-0

The Marion Indians blanked Maquoketa, 1-0, in a Wamac Conference girls soccer match Thursday in pouring rain.

Amanda Sahm scored the only goal in the soggy contest. Abby Phillips made nine saves for the shutout.

Maddie Chambers, Sheala Rael and Saige Trca "were outstanding" in the total team victory, according to Coach Erik Trilk.

Phillips helps Marion blank Benton

VAN HORNE - Abby Phillips collected a rare double for the Marion girls soccer team Tuesday.

Phillips posted her fifth shutout of the season as the goal-keeper and had an assist on the only score in the match as the Indians blanked Benton, 1-0, in a Wamac Conference game in Van Horne.

Phillips was credited with an assist on the goal by Maddie Bach.
