Steepleton wins Metro Spotlight Award

Alicia Steepleton of Marion is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Steepleton, a sophomore, has made major contributions as a hitter and pitcher for the Marion softball team this season.

She is hitting .519 with 17 RBIs in only eight games. And she has a 5-2 record and 3.43 ERA record as Marion's top pitcher.

Marion softball splits at IC tourney

IOWA CITY - The Marion High School softball team split its two games at the Iowa City West tournament Saturday.

The Indians clipped Centerville, 7-3, and lost to Davenport Assumption, 9-1.

Maddie Knapp and Alicia Steepleton were 2-for-3 against Centerville. Steepleton had two RBIs and was the winning pitcher. Knapp, Bayley Fuller and Sydney Nielsen scored two runs.

Marion collected only three hits in the 9-1 loss to Assumption. The split left the Indians with a 7-4 record.

Steepleton helps Marion top Prairie

Alicia Steepleton drove in four runs and was the winning pitcher Wednesday night as the Marion Indians defeated Prairie, 8-5, in a prep softball game at Prairie.

Marion raised its record to 6-2 with its sixth victory in a row. Prairie fell to 2-4.

Bayley Fuller went 2-for-4 for Marion and scored three runs. Steepleton was 2-for-4. Marissa Whitney drove in two runs for the Indians.

Steepleton pitched a complete game, allowing four earned runs in seven innings.

Marion scored four runs in the top of the seventh inning, turning a 5-4 deficit into an 8-5 lead.

Taylor Moenk went 3-for-4 for Prairie with two RBIs. Amanda Pipolo, Anne Cervany and Kristin Wahlert had two hits for the Hawks.

Marion softball wins wild twinbill

The Marion High School softball team rallied for five runs in the bottom of the eighth inning Monday night for a 15-14 victory over Vinton-Shellsburg to sweep their Wamac Conference doubleheader.

Marion won the first game, 8-1.

The wild nightcap was tied, 10-10, after seven innings. Vinton-Shellsburg scored four runs in the top of the eighth for a 14-10 lead, but the Indians responded with their 5-spot for the victory.

Madison Wilson went 4-for-5 with four RBIs for Marion in the second game. Alicia Steepleton was 3-for-4 with four RBIs. Bayley Fuller had three hits, Camryn Cannoy had two hits and Sydney Nielsen had two hits and two RBIs.

Steepleton and Wilson had two hits in the 8-1 victory. Maddie Knapp drove in two runs. Steepleton pitched a complete game, allowing one run on five hits with eight strikeouts.

Steepleton also got the victory in the nightcap.

Marion raised its record to 5-2. Vinton-Shellsburg fell to 3-5.

Marion softball team has perfect day

CENTRAL CITY - The Marion Indians won all three of their games at the Central City softball tournament Saturday.

The Indians topped Central City, Midland and Clayton Ridge

Maddie Knapp went 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs in a 7-3 victory over Central City. Sydney Nielsen, Marissa Whitney and Madison Wilson had two hits. Nielsen drove in two runs. Livvy Draves was the winning pitcher.

Knapp went 3-for-3, scored three runs and drove in three runs in a 12-0 triumph over Midland. Haley Dullea was 2-for-3 and scored three times. Neilsen drove in two runs.

Alicia Steepleton went 3-for-4 and drove in two runs in a 9-0 victory over Clayton Ridge. Dullea was 2-for-3 and scored three runs. Bayley Fuller and Megan Glovik had two hits. Neilsen drove in two runs.

Steepleton was the winning pitcher against Midland and Clayton Ridge.
