Linn-Mar girls roll by Marion

The Linn-Mar Lions topped Marion, 13-1, in four innings Friday night in a prep softball game at the Marion field.

Maddy Ryan tossed a three-hitter for Linn-Mar and drove in two runs. Morgan Braughton drove in three runs for the Lions (3-0). Ally Johnson, Christina Lincoln and Katie Andersen had two hits. Elly Schuemann drove in two runs.

Sydney Nielsen belted a solo home run for Marion.

Marion softball team falls to Beckman

Kelli Engelken socked a home run and drove in five runs Thursday as Dyersville Beckman defeated Marion, 12-2, in five innings in a Wamac Conference softball game at Marion.

Amber Boeckenstead went 3-for-4 for Beckman and drove in two runs.

Maddie Knapp and Sydney Nielsen had two hits for Marion. Nielsen, Knapp and Haley Dullea had doubles.

Marion - Softball

Sommer tops All-Metro softball team

Katie Sommer spent only year on the Linn-Mar High School softball team after moving here from Dubuque, but she made the most of it.

Sommer hit a sizzling .617 for the Lions this season, stole 57 bases, averaged two hits per game and displayed amazing skills at shortstop.

The Metro softball coaches honored Sommer Monday by naming her the Athlete of the Year on the All-Metro Softball Team.

Nikki Price of Xavier and her assistant coaches were named the Staff of the Year.

The Jefferson J-Hawks, who have qualified for the Class 5A state tournament, led the All-Metro team with three first-team selections with Maddie Hansen, Alyssa Olson and Erin Kuba.

Erin Drahozal and Hayley Deutmeyer were honored on the first team from Xavier. Jessi Puk and Bria Lenten made the top honor squad from

Washington. Gabi Carter and Natalie Rumer were named from Prairie. Sommer and Maddy Ryan were selected from Linn-Mar. Haley Vanourney from Marion High School also made the first team.

Marion tops Wahlert in softball playoffs

The Marion High School softball team had a difficult time during the regular season with a 6-23-1 record, but the Indians left their ballpark in a happy mood Thursday night.

Marion dumped Dubuque Wahlert, 10-5, in the opening round of the Class 4A playoffs in Marion.

The Indians will face third-ranked Solon in the semifinals Saturday night at Solon.

Megan Glovik went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs for Marion. Haley Vanourney was 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Bayley Fuller scored three runs and Camryn Cannoy scored twice.

Alicia Steepleton, the winning pitcher, helped her own cause with two RBIs.

Warriors top Marion in softball

Payton Bruner and Dana Riley belted home runs Tuesday night as Washington defeated Marion, 13-1, in five innings in a prep softball game at Marion.

Jessi Puk went 3-for-4 and scored three runs for the Warriors. Erica Oler was 3-for-4 and drove in three runs. Riley went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Bria Lenten and Hannah Schroeder had two hits.

Bruner went 2-for-4, scored four runs and had three RBIs. She also pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts and allowed an unearned run.
