Saints, J-Hawks keep rolling in softball

The Xavier Saints and Jefferson J-Hawks continue to set the pace for Metro softball teams, with several clubs not far behind.

The Saints, ranked No. 5 in Class 4A, won all four of their games this past week and raised their record to an impressive 18-2. The J-Hawks, ranked No. 5 in Class 5A, captured all five of their games and are sitting at 19-4.

The Washington Warriors, enjoying a strong year, went 5-1 this past week and have a 16-5 overall mark. Prairie is 16-9 and Kennedy 14-8.

The Linn-Mar Lions had a tough week, losing six of seven games. That dropped their record to 16-9. Marion lost five games and fell to 6-16.

Maquoketa tops Marion in softball

Maquoketa defeated Marion, 6-1, in a Wamac Conference softball game at Marion Friday night.

Bayley Fuller went 3-for-4 and drove in a run for Marion. Camryn Cannoy was 2-for-3 and scored a run.

McKenna Owen was 3-for-4 and drove in two runs for Maquoketa. Liz Gavin was 2-for-3.

Metro softball enjoying strong year

High school softball in the Metro area is enjoying a strong year this season  and there's a mad scramble to see who has the best record.

The Linn-Mar Lions have the most wins with a 15-3 overall record, but Xavier, Jefferson and Prairie all all right behind with 14 victories.

Washington and Kennedy have rebounded this season and have 11 wins apiece.

Here are the Metro records through Sunday:

Marion bats are quiet in losses

The Marion Indians collected only five singles Friday and dropped a Wamac Conference softball doubleheader to Williamsburg, 6-0 and 6-2 in eight innings, at Marion.

Bayley Fuller and Camryn Cannoy had RBIs for Marion in the second game.

Marion had a 2-0 lead in the nightcap. Williamsburg scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings to force extra innings and won the game with a four-spot in the eighth.

Indians trimmed by Western Dubuque

Western Dubuque scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning Thursday and trimmed Marion, 10-9, in a Wamac Conference softball game at Marion.

Camryn Cannoy went 3-for-4 for Marion. Haley Blazek, Marissa Whitney and Madison Wilson had two hits. Megan Glovik, Blazek and Wilson had two RBIs.

Alicia Steepleton pitched a complete game for the Indians.
