Marion selling state volleyball tickets

Marion High School is selling tickets for the Class 4A state volleyball tournament at the main office in the school.

Marion plays Lewis Central in the quarterfinals of the state tournament on Tuesday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. at the U.S. Cellular Center in downtown Cedar Rapids.

Marion will be selling tickets from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday and Monday, and from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday. Tickets also may be purchased at the arena. All tickets cost $10.

Make checks payable to "Marion High School" if purchasing tickets at the school.

Marion sweeps to state volleyball meet

WASHINGTON, Iowa - The Marion High School volleyball team cruised to a 25-12, 25-14, 25-9 victory over Fort Madison in the Class 4A regional finals Tuesday night and earned its second straight trip to the state tournament.

Marion (31-8) will face Lewis Central (32-5) in the quarterfinals of the state tournament at 6 p.m. Tuesday on Court 1 at the U.S. Cellular Center. The Indians reached the semifinals of the state tournament a year ago.

Fort Madison committed 17 errors in the first set Tuesday night in a match played in Washington, about halfway between the two schools. Marion played a strong game on offense in the second set for a 2-0 lead, then rallied from a 7-4 deficit in the third set to post a convincing victory.

6 Indians make All-Wamac volleyball

Six members of the Marion High School volleyball team have been named to the All-Wamac Conference squad for the West Division.

Isabella Sade, Olivia Frazier and Caitlyn Smith were named first team all-conference. Alyssa Thomas was selected to the second team. Morgan Swanger and Kaela Halvorson received honorable mention.

Roxanne Paulsen of Marion was named the West Division Coach of the Year.

Marion won the West Division title with a 7-0 record.

Caitlyn Smith wins Metro Spotlight Award

Caitlyn Smith of Marion is the winner of the Metro Spotlight Award for high school girls this week, the Metro Sports Report announced Sunday.

Smith, a sophomore, is a key member of the Marion High School volleyball team. The Indians are ranked No. 4 in Class 4A with a 29-8 record heading into the postseason tournament.

Smith leads the powerful Wamac Conference in assists with 873 this year and is averaging 9.29 assists per set. She also has 129 digs, 45 kills, 38 blocks and 28 aces for the Indians.

Marion sweeps City High in volleyball

IOWA CITY - The Marion Indians swept Iowa City High, 25-20, 25-18, 25-19, in a high school volleyball match in Iowa City.

The Indians, ranked No. 5 in Class 4A, stepped up in competition and defeated a Class 5A program from the Mississippi Valley Conference.

Isabella Sade collected 10 kills and six blocks for Marion. Olivia Frazier had 10 kills and three blocks. Alyssa Thomas finished with nine kills and three blocks. Kaela Halvorson had seven kills and was 16-for-16 in serving with four aces.

Caitlyn Smith provided 33 assists and eight digs and was 13-for-13 with her serves. Haley Dullea was 21-for-21 in serving with five aces. Tanea Westhoff finished with 21 digs.

Marion raised its record to 29-8.
