No.3 Indians sweep Independence

The third-ranked Marion Indians raised their record to 18-2 Tuesday night by sweeping Independence, 25-19, 25-22, 25-19, in a Wamac Conference volleyball match at Marion.

The Indians are 5-0 in Wamac contests.

Amanda Sahm collected 31 assists, eight digs, three aces and was 15-for-16 on serves. Abby Phillips went 11-for-12 on serves and had 13 digs.

Alyssa Thomas contributed 12 kills and two blocks for Marion. Olivia Frazier had nine kills and two blocks. Isabella Sade finished with seven kills.

Ashley Ohl provided seven digs and was 12-for-12 on serves. Johanna Steggall had six digs and five kills.

Prairie climbs in volleyball poll

The Prairie Hawks climbed one spot to No. 9 in the Class 5A volleyball rankings Thursday by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.

The Marion Indians stayed No. 3 in Class 4A and the Xavier Saints remained No. 9 in Class 4A.

No.3 Indians down Clear Creek-Amana

TIFFIN - Amanda Sahm collected 34 assists Tuesday night as the third-ranked Marion Indians swept Clear Creek-Amana, 25-20, 25-18, 25-17, in a Wamac Conference volleyball match in Tiffin.

Marion raised its records to 17-2 overall and 4-0 in Wamac matches.

Alyssa Thomas led the Indians with 14 kills. Isabella Sade had eight kills and Olivia Frazier had seven.

Sade and Sahm were both 13-for-13 on serves. Abby Phillips collected 11 digs, Ashley Ohl had nine, Johanna Steggall had eight and Tanea Westhoff also had eight.

Sade led the block parade with five. Frazier and Morgan Swanger had three apiece.

No.3 Indians top No.10 Saints for title

VAN HORNE - The third-ranked Marion Indians topped the 10th-ranked Xavier Saints, 25-19, 25-15, in a Class 4A showdown in the championship match of the Benton Community volleyball tournament Saturday.

Marion also defeated Xavier in pool play, 21-11, 21-17.

Kayla Torson collected 45 kills in the tournament for the Saints.

Prairie pops into volleyball rankings

The Cedar Rapids Prairie volleyball team has jumped into the No. 10 spot in the Class 5A state volleyball rankings, the IGHSAU announced Thursday.

The Hawks (9-3) defeated then-No. 6 Linn-Mar in the championship match of the Linn-Mar tournament Saturday, then they topped the Lions again in a Mississippi Valley Conference match Tuesday.

Linn-Mar dropped out of the rankings this week.

The Marion Indians (11-2) stayed in the No. 3 spot in the Class 4A poll. The Xavier Saints (8-4) climbed one notch to No. 9 in Class 4A.
