Vipond, Lembeck win mat titles

MOUNT VERNON - Jeff Vipond and Clint Lembeck of Xavier won individual titles at the Mount Vernon wrestling tournament Saturday.

Vipond claimed the 113-pound title with a 5-2 victory over Gannon Cook of East Buchanan. Lembeck captured the 138-pound crown with a 13-1 major decision over Cooper White of West Marshall.

Josh Gerke placed second at 145 pounds for the Saints.

The Marion Indians saw Colin Conway finish second at 152, Caleb Conway place third at 145 and Brady Bartz finish fourth at 160.

Davenport Assumption won the team championship. Xavier placed fifth out of 13 teams and Marion was 10th.

Marion matmen take 3rd at Monticello

MONTICELLO - The Marion High School wrestling team finished third at the Monticello tournament on Saturday.

Sumner-Fredericksburg won the championship with 228.5 points. Vinton-Shellsburg edge Marion for second place, 166 to 164.5.

Four Marion wrestlers finished second in their brackets with Jack Eichhorn (113), Zach Cochran (120), Trey Clifton (138) and Brady Bartz (160).

TEAM STANDINGS

1. Sumner-Fredericksburg 228.5, 2. Vinton-Shellsburg 166, 3. Marion 164.5, 4. Dyersville Beckman 143, 5. Anamosa 119, 6. Prairie JV 93, 7. Monticello 67, 8. Edgewood-Colesburg 65.5.

Marion wrestlers split double dual

The Marion High School wrestling team split a double-dual Tuesday night at Marion.

The Indians topped Cedar Rapids Washington, 45-24, and lost to Mount Vernon, 42-30.

Trey Clifton (138) and Colin Conway (152) won both of their matches for Marion. Caleb Conway (145) went 2-0 with a pin and a forfeit.

Marion pins Davenport West, 45-26

Kyle Van Meter, Aaron Cleppe, Caleb Conway and Colin Conway had pins Thursday night as the Marion Indians flattened Davenport West, 45-26, in a prep wrestling meet at Marion.

Van Meter got his pin in 34 seconds and Caleb Conway stuck his opponent in 40 seconds.

Dalton Gardner won an 8-1 decision for Marion.

Marion wrestlers finish last in Wamac

EPWORTH – The Marion wrestling team finished 16th and last in the Wamac Tournament on Saturday at Western Dubuque.

Independence won the tournament with 217.5 points.

Caleb Conway finished third at 145 pounds to lead Marion. Colin Conway was fifth at 152 and Jack Serbousek was eighth at 160.
