Franklin, Hobbs send Wash past Prairie, 58-49

Dani Franklin scored 20 points and Aleena Hobbs added 16 to power eighth-ranked Washington past Prairie, 58-49, Friday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls basketball game at Prairie.

Kandis O'Donnell added 10 points for Washington (15-4, 10-1).  Franklin had 10 rebounds.

Cyerra Hutchins scored 18 points and Olivia Usher 17 for Prairie (6-13, 4-7).

Washington led by five points at halftime and by six after three quarters.

Prairie girls suffer 8th loss in row

MOUNT VERNON - Miranda Chapman and Allison Platte scored 14 points apiece Saturday as Mount Vernon defeated Cedar Rapids Prairie, 65-56, in a girls basketball game in Mount Vernon.

Prairie dropped its eighth straight game and fell to 6-12. Mount Vernon raised its record to 11-6.

Libby Ryan scored 12 points for the Mustangs. Chapman grabbed nine rebounds.

Prairie tumbles again without Dellamuth

The Cedar Rapids Prairie girls basketball team, playing without flu-ridden guard Madison Dellamuth, dropped their seventh game in a row Friday night with a 61-43 loss to Iowa City West in a Mississippi Valley Conference affair at Prairie.

Iowa City West held a commanding 45-13 lead at halftime.

Cyerra Hutchins hit three 3-pointers and scored 19 points for Prairie (6-11). Mikaela Morgan led Iowa City West (8-9) with 14 points.

Deutmeyer sparks Saints by Prairie

Hayley Deutmeyer poured in 26 points Tuesday night as the Xavier Saints defeated Prairie, 63-46, in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Xavier.

Morgan Breitbach, Maddie Bertsch and Meghan Joens scored 10 points apiece as the Saints (8-9, 5-5) snapped a three-game losing streak.

Cyerra Hutchins led Prairie with 15 points. The Hawks (6-10, 4-5) lost their sixth game in a row.

Prairie - Girls Basketball

Prairie girls fall short at Bettendorf, 54-48

BETTENDORF - Bettendorf built an 11-point lead in the first quarter and held on to beat Prairie, 54-48, Saturday in a non-conference girls basketball game.

Cyerra Hutchins scored 13 points and Emilie Rotter had 10 for Prairie.

Bettendorf led 19-8 art the end of the first quarter, but Prairie trimmed the deficit to 30-25 by halftime.

The Hawks closed to within 50-48 with about a minute to play, but Bettendorf scored the final four points to close out the win.
