Linn-Mar rally trips Hawks

Trailing by one pin heading into the last game of the Baker round, Linn-Mar bested Prairie 199-180 and beat the Hawks, 3168-3150, Monday in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys bowling meet at the Cedar Rapids Bowling Center.

Linn-Mar (8-6, 7-4 MVC) clinched second place in the Mississippi Division in its regular-season finale. Corey Prokop led the Lions with games of 222 and 258 for a meet-high 480 series. Justin Wyant had games of 224 and 235 for a 459 series.

Prairie's Brogan Fiala had the ball rolling in his first game, rolling a 279, and finished with a 469 series. The Hawks (13-3, 8-3) dropped into third place in the Valley Division.

Linn-Mar will compete in the Class 2A substate tournament Saturday at May City Bowl. Prairie is in the Marshalltown substate.

PRAIRIE (3150): Chase Bicket 227-406, Nick Blood 221-421, Jeremy Cline 220-427, Sean Steichen 196-379, Brogan Fiala 279-469.

LINN-MAR (3168): Justin Wyant 235-459, Tristan Stevens 206-408, Dreyson Robe 219-430, Matt Wheaton 233-381, Corey Prokop 258-480.

First round -- Linn-Mar 2158, Prairie 2102. Baker round -- Prairie 1048, Linn-Mar 1010.

Cline leads Prairie boys past City High

Jeremy Cline rolled a high game of 244 and 421 series to propel Prairie past Iowa City High, 2921-2805, Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys bowling meet at Lancer Lanes.

Ryan Ask rolled a 222 and Sean Steichen a 212 for Prairie (13-2, 8-2 MVC).

Austin Kibler rolled games of 248 and 240 for a 488 series for Iowa City High (6-8, 4-6).

IOWA CITY HIGH (2805): Wes Kirtchner 186-346, Mike Beaumont 178-304, Jack Beaumont 167-322, Austin Kibler 248-488, Shane Evans 247-428.

PRAIRIE (2921): Jeremy Cline 244-421, Sean Steichen 212-392, Ryan Ask 222-389, Brandon Wagner 189-377, Nick Blood 189-377.

First round -- Prairie 1956, City High 1888. Baker round -- Prairie 965, City High 917.

Hawks' rally jolts J-Hawks

Prairie rolled four 200 games in the Baker round and rallied past Jefferson, 3127-3100, Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys bowling meet at May City Bowl.

Jefferson (9-6, 5-4 MVC) held a 68-pin lead after the first round. Dan Healy rolled games of 279 and 242 for a 521 series to lead the J-Hawks and Michael Kilts also had it rolling with games of 245 and 224 for a 469 series.

Prairie (12-2, 7-2) had a high game of 258 and 451 series. Brogan Fiala went 214 and 216 for a 430.

Prairie rolled Baker games of 253 and 238 in the Baker round to erase Jefferson's lead. The Hawks outscored the J-Hawks by 95 pins in the round.

Prairie - Boys Bowling

Fiala hot, but Hawks fall to Waterloo East

WATERLOO -- Prairie's Brogan Fiala rolled games of 268 and 259 for a 527 series but the Hawks were beaten by Waterloo East, 3226-3156, Friday in a showdown of the top boys bowling teams in the Misssissippi Valley Conference Valley Division.

Jeff McCann rolled games of 270 and 246 for undefeated East (8-0, 8-0) which took a two-match lead over Prairie (11-2, 6-2) with three to play.

Jeremy Cline also had a hot hand going for Prairie, with games of 238 and 202 for a 440 series. The Hawks also had high games of 225 by Nick Blood, 211 by Chase Bicket and 209 by Sean Steichen.

Prairie - Boys Bowling

Hawks soar past Golden Eagles

Nick Blood rollled back-to-back games of 243 for a 486 series that paced Prairie past Dubuque Wahlert, 3204-2697, Friday in a Mississippi Valley Conference boys bowling meet at Lancer Lanes.

Zach Bolton rolled high game of 248 for Prairie (11-1, 6-1 MVC). He also had a 441 series. Brogan Fiala had a 223 high game and 428 series.

Prairie rolled its second highest score of the season.

Joe Weber led Wahlert (2-5, 2-5) with a 219 game and 424 series.
