Prairie girls squeak past Linn-Mar

The Prairie girls bowling team overcame a 69-pin first-round deficit to beat Linn-Mar 2,635 to 2,605 Tuesday at Lancer Lanes.

The Prairie Hawks took control in the Baker round, where they led 974 to 875.

Rylee Blood led Prairie with a 426 series. MeKena Diercks had a 400 series for Linn-Mar.

Prairie (2,635): Rylee Blood 200-226=426, Kaitlyn Early 146-188=334, Riley Hansen 171-161-332, Sabrina Keiper 147-140=287, Linsey Grady 144-138=282, Mikayla Hite 125-152=277.

Linn-Mar (2,605): MeKena Diercks 234-166=400, Emma Davis 194-195=349, Kayla Johnson 147-201=348, Doriann Whitlock 137-183=320, Alexis Tschantz 158-155=313, Amber Serpe 131-152=283.

Prairie: 1,661-974=2,635.
Linn-Mar: 1,730-875=2,605.

Blood tops MVC girls bowling squad

Rylee Blood of Prairie has been named the Valley Division co-Athlete of the Year on the 2014 Mississippi Valley Conference girls bowling squad, as selected by MVC coaches.

Blood shared the award with Jordan Newman of Waterloo West.

Brooke McMorran of Linn-Mar and Keely Pernicka of Washington joined Blood on the Valley Division first team. Rylea Bennett and Savannah Fowler of Jefferson were named to the first team in the Mississippi Division.

Blood tops All-Metro girls bowling

Rylee Blood of Prairie has been named the Athlete of the Year on the 2014 All-Metro girls bowling team, as selected by Metro coaches.

Blood, Keely Pernicka of Washington, Bre Smith of Marion and Brooke McMorran of Linn-Mar were unanimous choices on the first team. They were joined by Amber Westmeier of Prairie and Rylea Bennett of Jefferson.

Don Willfong of Prairie was named the Coach of the Year.

Prairie - Girls Bowling

Prairie girls 4th at 2A state bowling

The Prairie girls missed out on a top three finish by one pin Tuesday in the Class 2A state bowling tournament at Plaza Lanes.

Prairie turned in the best Baker round with a 1088 and finished in fourth place, one pin behind Muscatine. Waterloo West was champion and Bettendorf finished second.

The Jefferson girls were eighth.

Prairie's Amber Westemeier shot a 407 set in singles and Ashley Grady a 393. Jefferson was led by Rylea Bennett's 405 set.

Davis leads Linn-Mar girls past Prairie bowlers

Emma Davis had the hot hand for Linn-Mar Friday, rolling a 218 game and 386 series that led the Lions by Prairie, 2709-2660, in girls bowling at Lancer Lanes.

Brooke McMorran had a 375 series for Linn-Mar.

Ashley Grady rolled a 208 high game and 356 series to lead Prairie.
