Prairie - Girls Golf

Kamin, Bertsch, Winter top all-Metro golf

MJ Kamin of Washington, Maddie Bertsch of Xavier and Grace Winker of Xavier are unanimous selections on the 2014 All-Metro girls golf team.

Emily Machula of Prairie, Teresa Lopez Moreno of Linn-Mar and Lauren Coughlin of Linn-Mar also were first-team selections.

Bertsch and Winker led Xavier to the Class 4A state title this season. Bertsch was the state medalist and Winker the runner-up.

Kamin placed second at the Class 5A state meet.

Julie Kadlec of Xavier and Bill Hoefle of Linn-Mar were the Co-Coaches of the Year.

Prairie girls triumph at Jones Park

Emily Machula tied for medalist honors Tuesday to help the Prairie Hawks win a Mississippi Valley Conference triangular meet at Jones Park Golf Course.

Machula and MJ Kamin of Washington shared top honors at 10-over-par 45.

Prairie won the meet at 196, followed by Washington (202) and Jefferson (246).

PRAIRIE: Emily Machula 45, Emily Perrin 47, Grace Lindgren 51, Peyton Staab 53, Sydney Stolba 55, Kennedy Fisher 55, Hannah Stebral 59, Mallory Bennett 63.

Bertsch tames Ellis Park with 73

Xavier High School senior Maddie Bertsch fired a 1-over-par 73 to claim medalist honors at the Kennedy Invitational Monday at Ellis Park Golf Course.

Grace Winker of Xavier was the runner-up with an 81 as the Saints won the team championship by three strokes ahead of Linn-Mar, 344-347. Kennedy and Prairie tied for sixth in the eight-team field at 401.

Lauren Coughlin shot a 10-over 82 for Linn-Mar and Teresa Lopez Moreno finished with an 83 for the Lions.

Prairie - Girls Golf

Lions take 2nd at Prairie golf

Lauren Coughlin and Teresa Lopez Moreno helped the Linn-Mar Lions finish in second place at the Prairie Invitational golf tournament at Airport National Thursday.

Coughlin shot a 14-over-par 77 to place fourth in the individual standings. Lopez Moreno finished with a 15-over 78.

Kate Coyle of Cascade took medalist honors with a 74.

Iowa City West won the team title at 309, followed by Linn-Mar (323) and Prairie (345). Marion placed eighth out of nine teams.

Emily Machula led Prairie with an 81. Taylor Wade and Ashley Ohl topped Marion with 88's.
