Furnish goes low; Saints win meet

Jefferson senior Megan Furnish shot a meet low 39, but Xavier had four golfers in the low 40s and the Saints won a triangular Thursday at Twin Pines.

Xavier won with a 172. The Saints' Maddie Bertsch was runnerup medalist with a 41. Grace Winker had a 42, Morgan DeLong a 44 and Taylor Wertzberger a 45.

Prairie was second with a 189. Kerstin Flugum and Alyssa Beisker had low scores with 46s.

Jefferson was third with a 219.

XAVIER (172): Maddie Bertsch 41, Grace Winker 42, Morgan DeLong 44, Taylor Wertzberger 45

Prairie girls finish second at Waterloo West

WATERLOO --Kerstin Flugum shot a 47 and Prairie finished second in the Waterloo West triangular girls golf meet.

West won with a 196. Prairie shot a 202 and Cedar Rapids Washington a 218.

Prairie girls 2nd at Iowa City West meet

CORALVILLE --Jehri Wagner shot a 48 and Kerstin Flugum a 49 to lead Prairie to a second-place finish at the Iowa City West quadrangular girls golf meet at Brown Deer golf course Tuesday.

Iowa City West won the meet with a 182. Madison Goodfellow was medalist at 39.

Washington was third. Jefferson did not have a qualifying score because Megan Furnish injured her back and was forced to withdraw.

Teams -- 1. Iowa City West 182, 2. Prairie 205, 3. Washington 214. Jefferson no score

Medalist -- Madison Goodfellow (ICW) 39

Prairie - Girls Golf

Hawks 9th at Prairie Invitational

Kimmy Askelson shot an even-par 65 to claim medalist honors at the Prairie Invitational girls golf meet Thursday at Airport National.

Askelson had three bogeys and a double bogey, but countered that with five birdies. She beat Newton's Jasmine Yoder by seven strokes.

Xavier was second to Newton in the team race, finishing 13 shots back.  Linn-Mar tied with Clear Creek Amana for third place, four shots behind Xavier.

Danielle Toy's 76 led Linn-Mar.

Prairie finished ninth.

Hawks 2nd in Benton golf invitational

VAN HORNE -- Prairie finished two shots behind Solon at the Benton Girls Golf Invitational on Saturday at Tara Hills Country Club.

Solon finished with a 412 and Prairie a 414. Independence was third at 439.

Paige Van Dyke of South Tama won a playoff for medalist honors with MacKenzie Black from Independence. Both shot 10-over par 84.

Teams -- 1. Solon 412, 2. Cedar Rapids Prairie 414, 3. Independence 439, 4. Benton Community 445, 5. Waterloo Columbus 464, 6. South Tama --.

Co-medalists --  Paige Van Dyke (South Tama), MacKenzie Black (Independence) 84 (Van Dyke won in a playoff that went to the 4th hole)
