Mineck lifts Prairie in overtime

Sam Mineck scored in the first overtime Thursday night to give 16th-ranked Prairie a 3-2 victory over Waterloo West in a Mississippi Valley Conference soccer match at Prairie.

Nerm Ibrahimovic and Spencer Gaddis scored goals in the first half to give the Hawks a 2-1 edge at intermission.

Prairie raised its records to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the MVC.

Prairie ranked in boys soccer poll

Five boys soccer teams from the Cedar Rapids Metro area are ranked by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association in the first poll of the regular season.

The Xavier Saints are the top team in Class 2A.

Kennedy, Washington and Linn-Mar are ranked 3-4-5 in Class 3A,  and the Prairie Hawks are ranked 16th.

Iowa City West is the No.1 team in Class 3A.

Kueny's clean sheet propels Hawks past Saints

Curt Lewis knew his Prairie boys soccer team probably wasn't as good as its 8-0 start.

He also knew they weren't as bad as the team that had lost four of five during one stretch.

The Hawks brought a 12-4 record into Thursday night's game against a powerful Xavier team. They bent all match long, but due to the stellar play of senior keeper Adam Kueny, came away with a hard-fought 1-0 win, ruining Senior Night for 13 Xavier 12th graders.

Prairie - Boys Soccer

No.6 Prairie rallies for 3-1 win

There were a few uncomfortable moments for the No.6 Prairie boys Friday night.

Prairie trailed Hempstead 1-0 with 50 minutes gone in the game before rallying to score three goals and pull out a 3-1 win at John Wall Field.

Logan Rinderknecht scored two goals and Spencer Gaddis had an unassisted goal for Prairie.

Juan Loera and Seth Rinderknecht had assists for the Hawks (12-4).

Ibrahimovic goals power Prairie past J-Hawks

Nermin Ibrahimovic scored twice to lead No.6 Prairie past Jefferson, 2-0, Wednesday in boys soccer at lower Kingston.

Prairie improved to 11-4.

Jefferson is 2-10.
