Prairie - Boys Soccer

Prairie drops to No.4 in poll

The Kennedy Cougars and Xavier Saints moved to the top of the boys soccer rankings Tuesday.

Kennedy replaced Prairie as the No.1 team in Class 3A. Xavier replaced Dubuque Wahlert as the No.1 club in Class 2A.

Prairie fell to No.4 in Class 3A. Washington is ranked sixth and Linn-Mar is tied for 12th.

No.1 Prairie suffers 2nd loss

The fortunes of the Cedar Rapids Prairie boys soccer team have turned as nasty as this week's weather.

After starting out a somewhat surprising 8-0 and gaining a No. 1 state ranking in Class 3A, the Hawks have hit a rough patch. Coming off a 6-0 loss to Iowa City West on Tuesday, Prairie got off to a slow start Thursday afternoon against No. 4 Iowa City High.

The Little Hawks (8-1) got a goal from Fernando Pacheco off a corner just four minutes into the game and added an early second-half tally en route to a 3-1 victory at John Wall Field.

Prairie boys top Class 3A soccer poll

Prairie vaulted five spots to the top of the Class 3A boys soccer poll in rankings released Tuesday by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.

The Hawks, undefeated at 8-0, received nine of a possible 10 first-place votes to claim the No.1 spot.

Kennedy, fresh off a 3-0 venture at the West Des Moines Valley Invitational that included a win over the previous No.1 Tigers, received the other first-place vote and is second in the poll. The Cougars (5-0) were ranked 10th last week.

Prairie - Boys Soccer

No.6 Hawks nip No.3 Warriors in boys soccer

The Cedar Rapids Prairie boys soccer team has never won a conference title, never made the state tournament and until this year had never been ranked in the Top 10.

The times could be changing.

The sixth-ranked Hawks trimmed No.3 Cedar Rapids Washington, 1-0, Thursday on a goal by sophomore Logan Rindernecht with 1 minute, 51 seconds left in the second half on a cold, damp, raw night at Prairie.

Prairie - Boys Soccer

Wash, Prairie headed for soccer showdown

The Cedar Rapids Washington and Cedar Rapids Prairie boys soccer teams continued to climb in the rankings Tuesday, just in time for their big showdown Thursday night.

Washington jumped from No.10 to No.3 in Class 3A after upending then top-ranked Iowa City West. Prairie climbed one notch from No.7 to No.6 after winning the Linn-Mar tournament.

The Warriors and Hawks are scheduled to clash Thursday at 7 p.m. at Prairie.
