Lions proving selves in tough conditions

They have played just four games, been hindered by an inconsistent practice schedule and have a roster littered with sophomores and freshmen.

Yes, the Linn-Mar girls soccer team is still working to find its way. Tuesday night's 2-0 win over Cedar Rapids Prairie on a raw, windy night at John Wall Field showed the good and bad for the 4-0 Lions.

The good has been a defense that has not been scored on in 346 minutes of play. The not so good has been the inconsistency that comes with youth combined with tough playing conditions.

"This was a good win for us under tough conditions against a very good Prairie team," said Linn-Mar Coach Steve Dickinson. "Our defense has been pretty solid. They work well together as a group."

Prairie - Girls Soccer

Prairie girls blanked in soccer, 2-0

The Cedar Rapids Prairie girls soccer, playing its sixth game in seven days, fell 2-0 to Iowa City West in a Mississippi Valley Conference game at Prairie Monday night.

Freshman Kendra Gaskill played her first varsity minutes as Prairie's goalkeeper in place of Anna Whetstone, last year's Valley Division Keeper of the Year.

Molly Lipman led the attack for Iowa City West.

Aminah Baloch played a strong game for Prairie.

Prairie girls nipped by Muskies

ELDRIDGE - The Cedar Rapids Prairie girls soccer team lost to Muscatine, 2-1, at the North Scott tournament Friday.

Hannah Kousheh scored for Prairie with an assist from Adelaide Bayne.

Cooper's corner kick lifts Warriors

Annee Cooper's goal off a corner kick 7:16 into overtime lifted Washington past Prairie, 1-0, Thursday in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls soccer match at Kingston Stadium.

The Warriors are 2-0. Prairie is 2-1.

Prairie girls kick Waterloo East, 10-0

WATERLOO - Mackenzie Serbousek, Hayley Moyle and Adelaide Bayne scored two goals apiece Monday as the Cedar Rapids Prairie girls soccer team dumped Waterloo East, 10-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference match in Waterloo.

Ali Morrow, Ashli O'Shae, Cyerra Hutchins and Brittney England also scored for the Hawks.

Serbousek collected two assists. Lizzy Fowler, Alexis Leggat, Hannah Kousheh, Moyle, Bayne and Morrow also had assists.
