Halverson helps Hawks top Indians

Natalie Halverson pitched a five-hitter with nine strikeouts Monday night as No.8 Prairie trimmed Marion, 3-1, in a prep softball game at Marion.

Marion took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning, but Prairie tied the game in the fifth inning and scored twice in the seventh to win it.

Amanda Stecklein went 2-for-2 for the Hawks. Amanda Piplo, Halle Lueck and Kristin Wahlert collected RBIs.

Haley Dullea went 2-for-3 for Marion. Alicia Steepleton pitched a complete game for the Indians.

Prairie - Softball

Metro teams climb in softball rankings

Jefferson, Xavier and Prairie all moved in the right direction in the prep softball rankings Friday, according to the IGHSAU.

Jefferson climbed two spots to No.3 in Class 5A, Xavier jumped one spot to No.6 in Class 4A, and Prairie jumped one spot to No.8 in Class 5A.

Johnston is ranked No.1 in Class 5A. Dallas Center-Grimes is No.1 in Class 4A.

Prairie trades wins with IC West

Shelby Frederick tossed a complete game as Cedar Rapids Prairie trimmed Iowa City West, 5-3, in the nightcap of a Mississippi Valley Conference twinbill at Prairie Thursday night.

Iowa City West won the first game, 4-3, in eight innings.

Gabi Carter drove in two runs for Prairie in the 5-3 victory. Amanda Stecklein had two hits.

Lauren Kuch had two RBIs for the Hawks in the first game. Mallory Jones had two hits.

No.9 Prairie sweeps Waterloo East

The ninth-ranked Cedar Rapids Prairie softball team swept its second Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader in two days Wednesday with a clean sweep of Waterloo East, 10-2 and 13-1 in four innings at the Prairie field.

Amanda Pipolo, Natalie Rumer, Halle Lueck, Taylor Moenk and Kristin Wahlert had two hits in the first game. Lueck scored three runs. Wahlert and Amanda Stecklein drove in two runs.

Natalie Halvorson tossed a three-hitter with seven strikeouts in the opener for Prairie.

Gabi Carter went 3-for-4 and drove in three runs in the second game. Moenk and Wahlert also had three RBIs. Rumer, Lueck and Wahlert had two hits. Stecklein drove in two runs. Shelby Frederik was the winning pitcher.

 

Prairie - Softball

No.9 Prairie sweeps Rams in opener

The ninth-ranked Prairie softball team opened the 2014 season Tuesday by sweeping a Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader against Dubuque Senior at Prairie.

The Hawks won the first game, 4-3, in eight innings and rolled 13-3 in five innings in the nightcap.

Amanda Pipolo and Taylor Moenk had two hits in the opener. Pipolo drove in two runs and Moenk scored twice. Natalie Halvorson was the winning pitcher.

Natalie Rumer went 3-for-3 for the Hawks in the second game. Gabi Carter, Halle Lueck, Amanda Stecklein and Kristin Wahlert had two hits apiece. Mallory Jones, Stecklein and Wahlert drove in two runs.

Shelby Frederick was the winning pitcher in Game 2.
