Montgomery, Soeken win for Prairie

NEWTON - Hailee Montgomery and Kenzie Soeken won titles for the Prairie girls track team at the Newton Cardinal Invitational Friday.

Montgomery captured the 100 hurdles (15.83) and Soeken won the high jump (5 feet).

Prairie received second-place showings from Hannah Grimm in the 400 and high jump, Natalie Rumer in the shot put and Rachel Griffin in the discus. The Hawks also placed second in the shuttle hurdle relay.

Jenks, Evans lead Metro parade to Drake

Linn-Mar distance stars Stephanie Jenks and Josh Evans are poised to leave their mark on the Drake Relays again next week.

Jenks, a sophomore, is seeded first in the 1500 meter run, first in the 3000 meter run and second in the 800. She won the 1500 and 3000 at Drake last year as a freshman.

Evans, a senior, is seeded first in the 3200, third in the 1600 and 10th in the 800. He and his teammates are seeded No.1 in the 4x800 relay and the sprint medley, with Evans the anchor on both relays when they ran their best times.

Evans set a meet record at the Drake Relays last year when he captured the 1600 in 4 minutes, 10.86 seconds. He also finished second in the 3200.

Brown wins shot put for Marion girls

EPWORTH —  Mahlia Brown of Marion High School captured the shot put with a toss of 35 feet, 11 1/2 inches at the Bobcat Relays in Epworth on Thursday night.

Brown also finished third in the discus for the Indians (95-4). Marion also got third-place showings from Olivia Frazier in the high jump (4-8) and Sydney Brase in the 100 hurdles (17.29).

The Indians placed second in the distance medley.

Prairie girls win Muscatine Relays

MUSCATINE — The Cedar Rapids Prairie girls track team won eight events and captured top honors at the Dick Washburn Invitational in Muscatine on Thursday.

Eilish Stanek won the 3000 (11:49.3), Hailee Montgomery claimed the 100 hurdles (15.63), Jocelyn Wood captured the 800 (2:29.56), Kenzie Soeken took the 200 (27.73) and Natalie Rumer won the shot put (37-8 1/2).

The Hawks also won the shuttle hurdle relay (1:09.34), the distance medley (4:37.67) and the sprint medley (1:54.34).

Prairie finished with 192 points to easily win the meet. Dubuque Hempstead placed a distance second with 124.5 points. The Washington Warriors finished fifth out of seven teams.H

Prairie girls nip Lions for title

Cedar Rapids Prairie won the 31st Annual Washington Warriors girls track meet by the slimmest of margins Tuesday night at Kingston Stadium.

The Hawks nipped the Linn-Mar Lions, 146 to 145.5, for top honors in the seven-team field.

Hailee Montgomery won the 100 hurdles and ran the anchor leg on the triumphant shuttle hurdle relay for Prairie. Kenzie Soeken took the high jump, and Rachel Griffin captured the discus for the Hawks.

Prairie also won the 4x100 relay with Paige Pritts, Soeken, Alexa Martin and Madison Dellamuth.

Stephanie Jenks won the 800 (2:17.04) and 1500 (4:40.51) for Linn-Mar. The Lions also claimed the 4x200 relay, the 4x400 relay, the sprint medley and the distance medley.
