Prairie spikes Iowa City West, 3-1

IOWA CITY - Halle Lueck collected 49 assists and 26 digs Tuesday night as Prairie tripped Iowa City West, 25-19, 24-26, 25-21, 25-19, in a Mississippi Valley Conference volleyball match in Iowa City.

The Hawks (15-20) used a balanced attack at the net with Megan Sprengeler getting 12 kills, Becca Bell 11, Kate Busswitz 11 and Malia Gudenkauf 11.

Gudenkauf went 15-for-15 on serves and Sara Stevenson was 14-for-14. Bell had four blocks for the Hawks. Busswitz and Lueck had three blocks.

Brenna Nehring contributed three ace serves.

"Prairie had a balanced offensive attack and played solid defense behind a great serving night," Coach Kevin Geary reported.

Saints outlast Prairie spikers

Sarah Homan had 44 assists and Kayla Torson 20 kills to lead Xavier to a three-set win over Prairie in a Mississippi Valley Conference volleyball match Tuesday night at Prairie.

The Class 4A No. 7 Saints won by scores of 25-23, 25-19, 33-31.

Halle Heying had 24 digs and Torson 15 digs for Xavier.

Becca Bell led Prairie with 11 kills and five blocks. Halle Lueck had 28 assists.

The Hawks got 18 digs apiece from Brittney Lash and Amanda Stecklein. Malia Gudenkauf and Brenna Nehring each had 17 digs.

Prairie takes 3rd at own volleyball tourney

The Prairie Hawks finished in third place with a 2-2 record at their invitational volleyball tournament Saturday at Prairie.

West Branch won the title with a perfect 4-0 record. Johnston (3-1) placed second, followed by Prairie (2-2), Western Dubuque (1-3) and West Burlington (0-4).

Prairie collected its two victories against Western Dubuque (21-16, 22-20) and West Burlington (21-8, 21-10). The Hawks lost to West Branch (21-17, 21-13) and Johnston (21-8, 11-21, 15-12).

Washington spikers 2nd at Prairie

Washington dropped a three-set match to Mediapolis and finished second Saturday at the Starcevich Invitational at Prairie High School.

Mediapolis won the six-team tournament with a 5-0 record. Washington was 4-1. Mediapolis beat the Warriors, 17-21, 21-16, 16-14.

Prairie was one of three teams to finish with a 1-4 mark. The Hawks were awarded fifth by virtue of their win over South Tama. The scores were 21-11 and 21-14.

Clear Creek Amana was third at 3-2.

Washington beat Prairie (21-11, 15-21, 15-7), South Tama (13-21, 21-8, 15-7), Ottumwa (21-11, 21-7) and Clear Creek Amana (21-11, 21-19)

Prairie spikers swept by No. 10 Tigers

The 10th-ranked Cedar Falls Tigers swept a Mississippi Valley Conference volleyball match from Prairie Tuesday night, 25-17, 25-13, 25-18, at Prairie.

Kate Busswitz and Megan Sprengeler had six kills apiece for Prairie. Becca Bell and Busswitz had three blocks. Amanda Stecklein collected 10 digs.

The Hawks fell to 9-10 overall and 1-3 in the MVC.
