Prairie spikers rally past Wahawks

Halle Lueck had 36 assists and Prairie rallied for three straight wins after dropping the first set and beat Waterloo West in a Mississippi Valley Conference volleyball match Tuesday at Prairie.

West won the first set, 25-19. Prairie ripped off the next three, 25-13, 25-18 and 25-15.

Becca Bell and Malia Gudenkauf had 10 kills apiece, and Megan Sprengeler added seven.

Bell had four blocks. Lueck, Brittney Lash and Amada Stecklein all had 14 digs.

Prairie is 1-0 in the MVC and 1-3 overall.

Prairie bows out of volleyball tournament

DUBUQUE - Dubuque Senior swept past Prairie in the quarterfinals of the Class 4A volleyball tournament Monday night at Dubuque Senior.

The Rams beat the Hawks, 25-18, 25-17, 25-17.

Senior advances to play at Pleasant Valley in the semifinals Thursday.

Prairie ended its season 12-21.

Hawks drop Waterloo East in straight sets

WATERLOO - Prairie beat Waterloo East in three straight sets Tuesday night in a Mississippi Valley Conference Valley Division volleyball match.

The Hawks (3-3, 12-20) won by scores of 25-22, 25-18, 25-19.

East dropped to 1-5, 4-26.

Prairie opens play in the Class 4A regional volleyball tournament Monday at Dubuque Senior.

Hawks 1-3 at MVC volleyball tourney

IOWA CITY - Seventh-ranked Kennedy knocked off No. 4 Dubuque Hempstead in pool play, but the Cougars couldn't get past No. 2 Iowa City High in the semifinals of the Mississippi Valley Conference volleyball tournament Saturday at Iowa City West.

Top-ranked Iowa City West knocked off City High in straight sets to win the championship.

Kennedy went through pool play with a 3-0 record, beating Jefferson (21-11, 21-13), Hempstead (21-15, 21-16) and Cedar Falls (21-12, 21-16). The Cougars beat Xavier, 25-18, 25-13, in the quarterfinals, but were beaten in straight sets by City High, 25-15, 25-23.

Xavier went 2-1 in pool play to reach the championship bracket. The Saints beat Washington (21-13, 17-21, 15-8), and Waterloo West,  but lost to Iowa City West.

Washington and Linn-Mar both were 0-3 in pool play, but both won two matches in the consolation bracket.

Prairie was 1-2 in pool play with a win over Waterloo East. The Hawks were beaten by Washington in the consolation bracket.

Jefferson lost all four of its matches, going 0-3 in pool play and losing to Washington in the consolation bracket.

The regular season concludes Tuesday. The regional tournament series starts Oct. 24. The state tournament is Nov. 9-12 at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena.

Prairie - Volleyball

Hawks finish 4th at own volleyball invitational

Prairie won two of five matches and finished fourth at its own invitational volleyball tournament Saturday.

West Branch went undefeated and won the round-robin event. Johnston was second with a 4-1 mark.

Prairie, Western Dubuque and West Burlington had 2-3 marks. Western Dubuque was awarded third, West Burlington fifth. Don Bosco rounded out the field at 0-5.

Prairie's wins were over Don Bosco and West Burlington.
