Kamin fires 1-under 35 for Wash

MJ Kamin of Cedar Rapids Washington made three birdies and fired a 1-under-par 35 Thursday to claim medalist honors in a Mississippi Valley Conference quadrangular meet at Gardner.

Kamin, who will play golf next year at Iowa State, collected birdies on the 2nd, 5th and 7th holes.

Teresa Lopez Moreno of Linn-Mar had an eagle-2 on the third hole to help the Lions nip Washington, 182-183, for team honors. Moreno finished with a 3-over 39.

Kamin shares top spot at Airport National

Cedar Rapids Washington senior MJ Kamin fired a 5-over-par 37 Tuesday to share medalist honors at a Mississippi Valley Conference quadrangular meet at Airport National.

Kamin tied Sarah Overton of Iowa City High with the best round of the day.

Wahlert won the meet at 169.

Team Standings

1. Wahlert 169, 2. Washington 179, 3. Prairie 193, 4. Iowa City High 194.

Kamin leads golfers at Hunters Ridge

MJ Kamin of Cedar Rapids Washington fired a 41 to claim medalist honors at a quadrangular girls golf meet at Hunters Ridge on Thursday.

Teresa Lopez Moreno shot a 42 for Linn-Mar to help the Lions win the meet by five strokes over Washington, 192-197.

Team Standings

1. Linn-Mar 192, 2. Washington 197, 3. Kennedy 217, 4. Marion 243.

Kamin receives E. Wayne Cooley grant

Cedar Rapids Washington senior MJ Kamin has been named the first runnerup for the 2014 E. Wayne Cooley Scholarship Award and will receive a $1,000 grant for college.

Kamin is a multi-sport athlete at Washington and plans to play golf at Iowa State. She is a starter for the Washington basketball team that is ranked No.8 in Class 5A.

All Iowa high schools may nominate one senior female student-athlete for the award who has excelled in athletics, academics and leadership. The award is named after the long-time former executive director of the Iowa High School Girls Athletic Union.

Kamin will play golf at Iowa State

Cedar Rapids Washington senior MJ Kamin has accepted an offer to join the Iowa State women's golf team next season.

Kamin placed sixth at the Class 5A state meet at Lake Panorama Golf Course last season as a junior with a 9-over-par 81. She finished second at the Class 5A regional at Gardner Golf Course.

Kamin plans to sign her national letter-of-intent Wednesday at 3 p.m. in the Washington cafeteria.

Washington senior Dani Franklin will sign her letter-of-intent to play basketball at Valparaiso University during the ceremony in the cafeteria.
