No.1 Trojans top No.4 Warriors in soccer

IOWA CITY — Iowa City West won an early-season showdown with Cedar Rapids Washington in boys soccer Thursday night.

The top-ranked Trojans defeated the fourth-ranked Warriors, 2-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference match in Iowa City.

Antonio Sanchez and Ben Troester scored for Iowa City West.

C.R. Washington ranked in boys soccer poll

Five boys soccer teams from the Cedar Rapids Metro area are ranked by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association in the first poll of the regular season.

The Xavier Saints are the top team in Class 2A.

Kennedy, Washington and Linn-Mar are ranked 3-4-5 in Class 3A,  and the Prairie Hawks are ranked 16th.

Iowa City West is the No.1 team in Class 3A.

No. 6 Warriors top Davenport Central

DAVENPORT - Alex Kennedy scored the only goal of the game Monday as the sixth-ranked Washington boys soccer team blanked Davenport Central, 1-0, in Davenport.

Emmanuel Hidalgo-Wohlleben collected the assist on Kennedy's goal.

Gunnar Lenzen pitched a shutout in goal as the Warriors raised their record to 3-0.

Warriors, Lions shine at Musky Classic

MUSCATINE —  The sixth-ranked Washington Warriors and eighth-ranked Linn-Mar Lions won both of their matches at the Muscatine Classic soccer tournament Saturday.

Washington blanked Dowling Catholic, 1-0, on a goal by Alex Kennedy and an assist from Augie Bergstrom. The Warriors also blanked Muscatine, 1-0, in a PK Shootout.

Linn-Mar topped Ankeny, 2-0, on goals by Hunter Wong and Bobby Charlton. Ben Johnson, Noah Ajram and Andrew Brundell collected assists. Jared Belin pitched a shutout in goal.

The Lions defeated Pleasant Valley, 4-1, in their other contest. Daniel Luzindya had two goals. Johnson and Leroy Enzugusi also scored. Johnson picked up three assists. Wong, Jack Ramsey and Darrin Eby also had assists.

Washington - Boys Soccer

Bergstrom, Bjornsen 1st team all-state

Five Metro boys have been selected to first team all-state teams by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association.

Three are on the Class 3A team: Austin Bergstrom and Jacob Bjornsen of Washington, and Kennedy's Killian Magee.

Two Xavier players are on the Class 2A team: Isaac Frisch and Paul Cavin.
