Washington girls net wins in Dubuque

DUBUQUE - The Cedar Rapids Washington girls tennis team cruised to a pair of Mississippi Valley Conference victories in Dubuque Saturday.

The Warriors topped Hempstead, 8-1, and blanked Wahlert, 9-0.

Lilly Hartman won both of her matches at No. 1 singles for Washington, 10-1 against Hempstead and 10-3 against Wahlert.

The Warriors have a 6-0 record.

Wash girls roll by Cedar Falls

CEDAR FALLS - The Cedar Rapids Washington girls tennis team collected an 8-1 victory at Cedar Falls Thursday in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet.

Lilly Hartman defeated Madison McCann, 10-4, at No. 1 singles for the Warriors.

Hannah Sherman, Kelly King, Eliza Sundermann and Abby Van Metre also won their singles matches for the 2014 state champions.

Washington raised its record to 4-0.

Washington girls blank Kennedy netters

Lilly Hartman defeated Selby Cook, 10-3, at No. 1 singles Tuesday as Washington blanked Kennedy in a Mississippi Valley Conference tennis meet at Washington.

Hannah Sherman, Kelly King, Eliza Sundermann, Laura Gibson and Abby Van Metre also won their singles matches for the Warriors.

Warriors lead all-Metro girls tennis

Seven members of the Cedar Rapids Washington girls tennis team have been named to the 2014 all-Metro squad after winning the Class 2A state title.

Lilly Hartman and Hannah Sherman were named to the first team. Rina Moore, Jennifer Greif and Kelly King were named to the second team. Callie Cook and Caroline Rossberger received honorable mention for the Warriors.

Ellie Anderson of Linn-Mar, Jessica Pedersen of Kennedy, Vale Caro of Prairie and Magui Caro of Prairie joined Hartman and Sherman on the all-Metro first team. All six players were unanimous selections.

Scott Leggat of Prairie was named the Coach of the Year.
