Julie Kadlec honored by IGHSAU

Julie Kadlec of Xavier is the 2017 golf recipient of the Golden Plaque Award from the Iowa Girls' High School Athletic Union.

The award honors an Iowa coach who has demonstrated a successful career while making notable contributions toward their school, community and the coaching profession.

Kadlec has been coaching golf since 1980. She started coaching at Cedar Rapids Regis and has been at Xavier since 1988.

Four of Kadlec's teams have reached the Iowa State Golf Tournament, highlighted by the 2014 team that won the Class 4A title by 53 strokes. That same year, Maddie Bertsch of Xavier was the 4A state  medalist.

Kadlec has had seven individual state qualifiers and 15 of her players have competed in college.

In addition to coaching golf, Kadlec started the Regis volleyball program. She also has coached gymnastics and cheerleading and has taught Fitness and Wellness for many years.

Braksiek leads Xavier golfers at regional

Ellie Braksiek shot a 99 to lead the Xavier girls golf team at the  Class 4A regional meet at St. Andrews Monday.

Grinnell freshman Bella Amador-Lagson fired a 6-over-par 76 to claim  medalist honors and lead her team to the regional title.

Xavier finished eighth out of 10 teams.

The Class 4A state meet will be held in Marshalltown May 30-31.

Xavier - Girls Golf

Xavier girls 5th in Mississippi golf

The Xavier Saints are in fifth place after 36 holes of the Mississippi Division girls golf tournament.

Dubuque Wahlert leads the team standings with 18 holes left to play  Jordan Amelon of Iowa City West is in first place with rounds of 79 and 86 for 165.

Monday's second round was played at Hunters Ridge.

Libby Kramer has been the top golfer in the first two rounds for Xavier with a score of 94-104=198.

Xavier girls nip Rams in tennis

The Xavier Saints won all three of their doubles matches Thursday to trim Dubuque Senior, 5-4, in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls tennis meet Xavier.

Sarah Schirm and Maddie Abu-Nameh won their singles matches for the Saints, who raised their dual meet record to 5-9.

Xavier golfers top Iowa City High

Ellie Braksiek shot a 16-over-par 51 Thursday to help Xavier top Iowa  City High, 222-230, in a Mississippi Valley Conference girls golf meet  at St. Andrews.
