Curley, Lansing win 1A district title

Ben Curley and Jon Lansing of Xavier High School won the doubles title at the Class 1A district tennis tournament at Xavier High School Friday.

Curley and Lansing defeated Tom Auge and Jack Lucy of Dubuque Wahlert, 6-1, 6-2, in the championship match and qualified for the state tournament.

Charlie Esker and Jack VonKampen of Xavier defeated Will McDonald and John Ott of Wahlert in the consolation match for third place in a tiebreaker, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0.

Cam Long of Wahlert defeated teammate Jackson Takes, 6-2, 6-4, for the district singles title. Alex Hinrichs of Xavier topped Peter Ward of Marion, 6-0, 6-1, for third place.

Wahlert won the team championship and advanced to the Class 1A substate finals. Xavier placed second and will host third-place Grinnell in a substate semifinal Saturday at 9 a.m.

Xavier boys net 9-0 victory

Ben Curley cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles Tuesday as Xavier blanked Dubuque Hempstead, 9-0, in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet at Xavier.

Jon Lansing, Charlie Esker, Jack Von Kampen, Alex Hinrichs and Blake Magill also won their singles matches in straight sets.

Xavier boys blanked by City High

The Xavier High School boys tennis team was shut out by Iowa City High, 9-0, Saturday in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet at Xavier.

Joe Hoff trimmed Ben Curley, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 1 singles.

Xavier boys clip Cougars in tennis

Jon Lansing, Jack VonKampen, Alex Hinrichs and Blake Magill won their singles matches Wednesday for Xavier as the Saints topped Kennedy, 6-3, in a Mississippi Valley Conference tennis match at Kennedy.

Rami Hemaidan of Kennedy blanked Ben Curley at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
