Xavier girls net 3rd at state

IOWA CITY - The Xavier High School girls tennis team defeated Camanche,

5-3, to claim third place at the Class 1A state meet at the University of

Iowa courts Saturday.

The third-place finish is the best in school history, according to Coach Matt Foxhoven.

The Saints were trimmed by Waterloo Columbus, 5-3, in the semifinals Saturday before beating Camanche in the consolation round.

Allison Jasper, Claire Bouchard, Emma Deignan and Katie Neumeyer gave Xavier a 4-2 lead against Camanche in the singles matches. The Saints clinched the meet when Claire Bouchard and Jeanne Bouchard won their match at No.2 doubles in a tiebreaker.

Waterloo Columbus trimmed Red Oak, 5-4, for the Class 1A state title.

Xavier's Jasper finishes third in 1A singles

Xavier's Allison Jasper defeated Dubuque Wahlert's Courtney Schneider, 5-7, 6-0, 10-7 to finish third in the Class 1A state singles tournament Friday in Iowa City.

Jasper lost to eventual champion Haley Resnick of Davenport Assumption in the semifinals, 6-1, 6-0.

In Class 2A action at Ames, Kennedy's Jessica Pedersen finished fourth, falling to eventual champion Chloe Jefferies in a three-set semifinal before dropping a staight-set decision to  Ames' Judith Fan

Jasper, Pedersen advance to state semifinals

Xavier's Allison Jasper and Prairie's Jessica Pedersen advanced to the state tennis singles semifinals on Thursday as did the Washington doubles team of Vale and Magui Caro.

Jasper, playing in the 1A tournament at the University of Iowa, defeated Emily Jurgensen of Ballard, 6-1, 6-2 in the first round and downed Emily Ahlers of LeMars, 6-4, 6-0 in the quarterfinals. She will meet defending state champion Haley Resnick of Davenport Assumption in Friday's semifinals.

Xavier's Kylie DeWees won her first set against Boone's Emma Rose before she was forced to retire from the tournament due to injury.

In Class 2A at Ames, Pedersen will meet West Des Moines Valley's Chloe Jefferies in the semifinals. Pedersen downed Sioux City North's Becca Aleynik, 6-4, 6-4 followed by a 6-1, 6-4 win over Kayla Kuethe of Waukee, 6-1, 6-4

Saints win opener at state tennis

WATERLOO - Kylie DeWees won her match at No. 1 singles Tuesday as the Xavier Saints defeated Dubuque Wahlert, 5-2, in the quarterfinals of the Class 1A state tennis tournament in Waterloo.

The Saints advanced to the semifinals of the state tournament June 7 at the University of Iowa courts.

Claire Bouchard, Jeanne Bouchard and Katie Neumeyer also won their singles matches for Xavier. The meet ended when Emma Deignan and Katie Neumeyer won their match at No.3 doubles.
