KCC's Sneed picked for all-star games

Ariel Sneed of Kirkwood Community College has been selected to play in theĀ 2014 NJCAA Women's Basketball All-Star Games in Niceville, Fla., July 24-27.

Sneed, a 6-foot post player, was named a third team All-American this season after averaging 10.8 points and 6.2 rebounds for the Eagles. She will be a sophomore at Kirkwood next season.

Forty players have been selected for the all-star games, which will be played at Northwest Florida State College.

KCC women sign 6-foot-5 center

The Kirkwood women's basketball team will have one of the tallest players in school history on the roster next season when 6-foot-5 center Kaycee Kallenberger joins the squad.

Kallenberger spent this past season at Eastern Illinois University, where she played sparingly and scored seven points in 11 games.

Kallenberger was an all-conference player in the Mississippi Athletic Conference (MAC) in high school. She set the career record for blocked shots at North Scott, then transferred to Pleasant Valley for her senior year.

Kirkwood has signed seven new players for the 2014-15 campaign, Coach Kim Muhl announced Wednesday.

The other new players are Cyerra Hutchins of Cedar Rapids Prairie, Casey Miles from Hudson High School, Addie Obermann from Northeast Goose Lake, Madison Wood from Cedar Falls, A.J. Downs from Merillville (Ind.) and Caitlin Sudduth from Tinley Park (Ill.).

KCC's Fallon joining Abrahamson at Albany

Mikayla Fallon, a sophomore guard from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, has signed a letter of intent with NCAA Division I University of Albany (N.Y.).

Fallon averaged 8.1 points and 4.2 rebounds for the Eagles this season. She dished out 84 assists along with 33 steals and shot 32 percent (55-173) from the 3-point line.

Albany is coached by Cedar Rapids Washington graduate Katie Abrahamson-Henderson. Albany finished 28-5 this year, winning the America East Conference and qualifying for the NCAA D-1 tournament.

Sneed named 3rd team All-American

Ariel Sneed of Kirkwood has been named a third team All-American by the National Junior College Athletic Association.

Sneed, a 6-foot post player from Harvey, Ill., averaged 10.8 points and 6.2 rebounds for the Eagles.

Sneed was a redshirt freshman this past season and plans to return to Kirkwood for the 2014-15 campaign.

Kirkwood finished with a 25-7 record.

Oberman, Miles joining Kirkwood women

The Kirkwood women's basketball team has received commitments from two high-scoring guards from Iowa.

Addie Oberman, a 5-foot-10 guard from Northeast Goose Lake, and Casey Miles, a 5-8 guard from Hudson, plan to join the Eagles next season.

Oberman averaged 17.9 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals this past season. Miles averaged 16.6 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals and made 41 3-pointers.

Oberman and Miles played in the Eastern Iowa All-Star Game at Kirkwood Wednesday night.
