Kirkwood wins regional golf title

PANORA - Dan Cutkomp of Kirkwood won the individual title Monday with a 1-over-par 145 as the Eagles dominated the Fall Region XI Preview tournament at Lake Panorama Golf Club in Panora.

Cutkomp competed as an individual in the tournament and did not count for Kirkwood in the team standings, but the Eagles had five other golfers finish in the top-6 to win the event by 29 shots.

Charlie Hartwig placed third at 149, Jordan Even and Carson Whittington tied for fourth at 153, and Eddie Doyle and Louis Flynn tied for sixth at 154.

KCC golfers lead Region XI tourney

PANORA - Charlie Hartwig fired a 1-under-par 71 Sunday as the Kirkwood Eagles took a commanding 23-shot lead after the first day of the NJCAA Region XI fall preview tournament at Lake Panorama Golf Course.

Dan Cutkomp of Kirkwood matched Hartwig with a 71 to top the leaderboard, but Cutkomp is playing as an individual and not with the team.

Jordan Even and Louis Flynn shot 1-over 73's for the Eagles. Carson Whittington contributed a 75.

The final round is scheduled for Monday.

Eagles 2nd at Ronnie Eastman invite

LA CROSSE, Wis. - Kirkwood's men's golfers had another consistent day Monday, but didn't have enough to overtake St. Ambrose for the team title at the Ronnie Eastman Invitational.

The Eagles shot 302 on Monday to finish at 602, 11 strokes behind the Bees. St. Ambrose's Sergio Garcia was the medalist with a two-day total of 2-under par, 142 on the par-72 LaCrosse Country Club course.

Kirkwood's Carson Whittington took second, shooting a 147 leaving him five shots behind Garcia and one shot ahead of teammate Charles Hartwig, who tied for third after shooting a 148.

Doyle leads Kirkwood at Eastman golf

LA CROSSE, Wis. - Eddie Doyle of Kirkwood fired an even-par 72 Sunday and stands in second place after the first round of the Ronnie Eastman Invitational at the La Crosse Country Club in La Crosse, Wis.

Saint Ambrose grabbed the 18-hole lead at 297. Kirkwood is three shots back at 300 heading into the final round Monday. Doyle trails the leader from Saint Ambrose by two shots.

Mount Mercy wins Cropper golf title

The Mount Mercy Mustangs won the Cropper Golf Classic by 10 shots Sunday at Hunters Ridge.

Will Bruyeres and George Long of Mount Mercy tied for second place in the individual standings with 36-hole scores of 3-over-par 147. Laxton Bennett of Viterbo claimed medalist honors with a 2-under 142.

Mount Mercy finished at 596. Viterbo edged Kirkwood, 606-607, for second place. Coe placed 11th out of 14 teams.

Jordan Even led Kirkwood at 5-over 149. Charlie Hartwig, competing for the Kirkwood "B" team, fired a 3-under 69 Sunday for the best score of the day.
