Thrune leads KCC golfers at Rend Lake

WHITTINGTON, Ill. - Max Thrune fired a 1-under-par 71 Sunday to help the Kirkwood Eagles move into first place after the opening round of the Rend Lake Spring Invitational.

Thrune holds a three-shot lead heading into the final round of the 36-hole tournament Monday.

Kirkwood finished the first round at 14-over 302 for an eight-shot lead over John A. Logan College.

KCC golfers dominate Spring Preview

PANORA - The Kirkwood men's golf team dominated the NJCAA Region XI  Spring Preview Friday by placing first and second in the team  standings at the Lake Panorama National Resort.

In reality, the Eagles tied themselves for first place. The Kirkwood  "A" team finished at 18-over-par 306 and the Kirkwood "B" team also  finished at 18-over 306.

Nine junior college teams from the ICCAC conference participated in the meet.

The Kirkwood teams finished two shots ahead of DMACC.

Powell paces KCC golfers at TPC

SILVIS, Ill. - Niall Powell of Kirkwood tied for 15th at the TPC Deere  Run Invitational Saturday at 4-over-par 146.

The Eagles finished in 14th place in an elite field of 23 collegiate teams.

Powell shot consecutive rounds of 73 and 73 at the two-day tournament  in adverse weather conditions.

Powell paces Kirkwood golfers at TPC

SILVIS, Ill. - Niall Powell shot a 2-over-par 73 Friday to lead the  Kirkwood Eagles at the TPC Deere Run Invitational.

Kirkwood is tied for 15th place heading into the final round of the  36-hole tournament Saturday in a strong field.

Taylor University sits in first place at 278. Kirkwood finished the  day at 300.

Eagles place 2nd at KCKCC golf tourney

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - The Kirkwood Eagles finished second at the KCKCC golf tournament Tuesday in Kansas City, Kan.

Barton County captured the 36-hole event with a four-man score of 591. Kirkwood finished at 607.

Barton and Kirkwood were tied for first place after 18 holes, but the Barton golfers caught fire Tuesday with three rounds of even-par 72 and another round of 73.

Niall Powell of Kirkwood placed fourth at 6-over 150, five shots behind the winner. JD Goodfellow and Ryan Morrison finished at 153, Will Babcock 154 and Max Thrune 155.

TEAM STANDINGS

1. Barton County 591, 2. Kirkwood 607, 3. KCKCC 619, 4. Indy CC 673, 5. Hesston 681, 6. Allen County 684, 7. Barton County 'B' 715.
