KCC golfers win 5th regional in row

AMES - The Kirkwood men's golf team captured the Region XI title for the fifth straight year Monday.

The third-ranked Eagles topped DMACC by 20 shots, 603 to 623, in the 36-hole tournament at the Veenker Memorial Golf Course in Ames.

Kirkwood advanced to the NJCAA Division II national tournament May 21-24 at Swan Lake Resort in Plymouth, Ind.

James Morgan of Kirkwood claimed medalist honors at 3-over-par 147 with rounds of 71 and 76. Ben Epperly of Kirkwood placed third, Will Babcock tied for fifth, Ryan Morrison tied for seventh and Dawson  Peters tied for 15th.

KCC golfers lead regional meet

AMES - The Kirkwood men's golf team has a six-shot lead at the NJCAA  regional tournament heading into the final round Monday at the Veenker  Memorial Golf Course.

The Eagles finished the first round Sunday at 16-over-par 304, with  DMACC in second place at 310.

James Morgan of Kirkwood is tied for first place in the individual  standings at 1-under 71. All five Kirkwood golfers are in the top-11  on the scoreboard. Ben Epperly is tied for fifth at 3-over 75.

KCC's Epperly shares Monmouth golf title

MONMOUTH, Ill. - Ben Epperly of Kirkwood tied for medalist honors at  the Fighting Scot Invitational Sunday at Gibson Woods.

Epperly and Colton Belloma of Southeastern Community College shot  rounds of even-par 71 on the 6,239 yard course.

The tournament was trimmed from 36 holes to 18 holes due to rain on Saturday.

Parkland College, which is ranked sixth in NJCAA Division II, edged  the third-ranked Kirkwood Eagles by two shots in the team standings,  294 to 296. Thirteen teams competed in the event.

Peters wins Blue Boy title with eagle

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Dawson Peters of Kirkwood showed a real flair for the dramatic on Saturday.

Peters carded an eagle-2 on the first hole of a three-way playoff to claim medalist honors at the Blue Boy Invitational at The Rail Golf Course in Springfield, Ill.

Peters, Ben Epperly of Kirkwood and Peyton Keeffer of the University of Dubuque finished the 36-hole event in a three-way tie at 149 before Peters quickly ended the suspense.

The third-ranked Kirkwood Eagles won the championship by 16 shots with Peters, Epperly, Will Babcock, George Kalpakas and James Morgan all finishing in the top-7 in the standings. Kalpakas played as an individual and did not count in the team score.

Epperly paces KCC golfers at Blue Boy

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Ben Epperly of Kirkwood successfully battled 25  mph winds at the Blue Boy Invitational Friday and sits in first place  heading into the final round on Saturday.

Epperly shot an even-par 72 at The Rail Golf Course for a one-shot  lead after 18 holes.

Kirkwood holds a four-shot edge on Nebraska Wesleyan, 304 to 308,  heading into the final round in the 11-team field.
