No.5 Eagles split games in Missouri

CROWDER, Mo. —  Sam Belz tossed a four-hit shutout Saturday as the fifth-ranked Kirkwood softball team from Cedar Rapids blanked Seminole State, 4-0, in their first game at the Crowder Tournament in Crowder, Mo.

Chasney Jenkins and Erin Weno went 2-for-4 for the Eagles. Jenkins, Weno, Brittney Lash and Krysta Tutsch drove in runs. Belz struck out six batters in the seven-inning game.

Kirkwood lost to Northern Oklahoma College, 2-1, in its second game Saturday despite another four-hitter by Belz. Natalie Clark drove in the only run for the Eagles (12-4).

Kirkwood is scheduled to play two more games in the tournament Sunday.

No.5 Eagles win 4 softball games

ROCHESTER, Minn. - The fifth-ranked Kirkwood Eagles won all four of their softball games Saturday at the indoor facility in Rochester, Minn.

The Eagles (11-3) blanked St. Catherine's, 12-0, in five innings; topped Minnesota West, 9-1, in five innings; shut out St. Thomas, 5-0; and trimmed Rochester Community College, 5-1.

Sam Belz pitched a no-hitter with eight strikeouts against St. Catherine's. Taylor Wise hit a home run and drove in five runs. Tara Walls went 3-for-4 and scored three runs. Alicia Crivaro hit a home run. Natalie Clark and Krysta Tutsch drove in two runs.

Saladino tosses 1-hitter for Kirkwood

COLUMBUS, Ga. - Shy Saladino pitched a one-hitter with five strikeouts Sunday as the Kirkwood softball team blanked Lakeland College, 1-0, at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Georgia.

Lexi Quandt drove in Tara Walls with the game's only run.

Kirkwood lost to Northwest Florida State, 14-7, in its second game Sunday. Krysta Tutsch hit a home run. Tutsch, Alicia Crivaro and Chasney Jenkins had two RBIs.

The fifth-ranked Eagles (7-3) split two games on Saturday in the tournament. Keirstyn Davis hit two home runs and drove in three runs in a 3-2 victory over Southern Union on a five-hitter by Saladino. Kirkwood lost its second game Saturday to San Jacinto, 4-3.

KCC softball wins 2 in Georgia

COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Kirkwood softball team won a pair of games at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga., Friday.

The Eagles clipped Georgia Perimeter College, 5-2, in their first game and trimmed Tallahassee Community College, 2-1, in the second contest.

Georgia Perimeter College is ranked 19th in NJCAA Division I, but Sam Belz tossed a three-hitter for Kirkwood for the victory. Keirstyn Davis scored two runs and drove in two runs. Brooke Prior went 2-for-3 for the Eagles, who are ranked No.5 in NJCAA Division II.

Shy Saladino pitched a six-hitter for Kirkwood (5-1) against Tallahassee. Tara Wells and Saladino drove in runs for the Eagles.

No.5 Kirkwood softball team wins twice

DAVENPORT - Sam Belz and Shy Saladino pitched complete games Sunday as the fifth-ranked Kirkwood softball team won both of its contests at the St. Ambrose tournament to finish the weekend with a 3-1 record.

Belz tossed a four-hitter with five strikeouts as the Eagles trimmed Waubonsee Community College in their first game, 4-2. Krysta Tutsch hit a home run and drove in three runs. Erin Weno and Jenna Schulte had two hits.

Saladino pitched a six-hitter with 11 strikeouts as Kirkwood trimmed St. Ambrose, 4-3, in the second game. Keirstyn Davis had two hits.
