Jackson belts 14th homer for Eagles

London Jackson belted her 14th home run of the season Tuesday to help  the Kirkwood Eagles dump Iowa Western, 9-1, in the first game of their  non-conference doubleheader at Kirkwood.

Iowa Western won the nightcap, 11-3, in five innings.

Jackson went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and scored three runs in the 9-1  victory, which ended after six innings due to the mercy rule. She is  tied for third in the country with her 14 homers.

Rachel Stewart went 2-for-4 with two runs in the victory. Lauren  Klaahsen drove in two runs. Erin Hocker (15-6) pitched a complete  game, allowing one run on two hits.

Iowa Western led 11-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning of  Game 2. Kirkwood scored three times, but it was not enough to stay  alive due to the eight-run mercy rule.

The split left the fifth-ranked Eagles at 31-10 at the NJCAA Division  II level. Iowa Western is 26-16 at the NJCAA Division I level.

KCC softball sweeps to 30 wins

The sixth-ranked Kirkwood softball team swept an ICCAC doubleheader  from Northeast Community College on Monday, 9-1 in six innings and 8-0  in five innings, at Kirkwood.

Kirkwood raised its records to 30-9 overall and 11-3 in the  conference. The Eagles are still in third place in the league  standings, trailing DMACC (13-1) and NIACC (12-2).

Bradee Bouman (14-3) tossed a three-hitter in the 9-1 victory in the  opener. Lauren Kuch lofted a three-run double in the sixth inning when  the Eagles scored six times for a walk-off victory.

Lauren Klaahsen and Jayme Finn had two RBIs in Game 1. Shelby Hulsebus  had two hits. Kuch scored twice.

Kirkwood - Softball

No. 6 Eagles split with No. 4 Bears

BOONE - Bradee Bouman tossed a complete game and got lots of support from her offense Saturday as sixth-ranked Kirkwood topped No. 4 DMACC, 8-3, in the second game of their ICCAC doubleheader in Boone.

DMACC nipped the Eagles in the opener, 2-1.

The DMACC Bears lead the conference standings at 11-1. NIACC, which is ranked seventh in the country, sits in second place at 10-3. Kirkwood is in third place at 9-3 in the tight race among three top-10 ballclubs.

Bouman (13-3) allowed two earned runs on six hits in the 8-3 victory in the nightcap. Lauren Kuch went 3-for-5 and scored twice. London Jackson was 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBIs and her 13th home run. Lauren Klaahsen, Jayme Finn and Autum Barthelman had two hits in a 16-hit attack.

No. 6 Eagles sweep Southeastern

The sixth-ranked Kirkwood softball swept a non-conference doubleheader  from Southeastern, 6-3 and 11-3 in five innings, at the Kirkwood field  Tuesday afternoon.

London Jackson belted a solo home run in the fifth inning to tie the  score, 3-3, in the opener. The Eagles scored three times in the sixth  for the 6-3 triumph. Jessi Butler went 2-for-2 with a triple and two  RBIs. Shelby Hulsebus was 2-for-4 in the leadoff spot.

Erin Hocker (14-5) tossed a complete game in the opener, allowing  three runs on three hits with eight strikeouts.

Jackson and Lauren Klaahsen hit home runs in the 11-3 victory in the  nightcap. It was Jackson's 12th homer of the season, tying her for  third-most in NJCAA Division II softball.

Hocker, Bouman toss shutouts for KCC

The Kirkwood softball team was able to take a rest on defense during  the first game of its ICCAC doubleheader against Southwestern on  Sunday at the Kirkwood field.

The Eagles blanked Southwestern, 10-0, in five innings as pitcher Erin  Hocker got 13 of the 15 outs with strikeouts. Hocker (13-5) finished  with a two-hitter with no walks.

Kirkwood defeated Southwestern, 8-0, in five innings of the nightcap  on a six-hitter by Bradee Bouman.

The sweep lifted the seventh-ranked Eagles to 25-8 overall and 8-2 in  the conference. Southwestern fell to 6-19 overall and 2-8 in the league.
