Hobbs paces Coe by Buena Vista

Aleena Hobbs scored 19 points Saturday as Coe dumped Buena Vista, 79-62, in the final game of the regular season at Eby Fieldhouse.

The Kohawks finished in a second-place tie with Luther in the Iowa Conference standings with a 10-4 record. Dubuque won the regular-season title with an 11-3 mark.

Coe will host Simpson in the opening round of the conference tournament Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Hobbs made a living at the foul line, cashing 13 of 15 free throws. She also grabbed eight rebounds and had three assists for the Kohawks (17-8).

Megan Hayes scored 13 points for coe. Mickey Hansche and Ashley Stulken netted 12 points apiece. Allie Wirth had 12 rebounds.

Coe - Women's Basketball

Kohawks cruise past Simpson

INDIANOLA - Mickey Hansche scored 19 points and Aleena Hobbs added 18 as Coe downed Simpson, 70-55, in an Iowa Conference women's basketball game on Wednesday night.

Megan Hayes added 14 points and Allie Wirth had nine rebounds for Coe (16-8, 9-4).

Simpson (16-8, 6-7) was led by Maddie Bosworth's 13 points.

Loras women edge Coe, 63-57

DUBUQUE – Mickey Hansche scored 15 points and Aleena Hobbs had 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Coe College women’s basketball team, but it wasn’t enough in a 63-57 loss to Loras College on Saturday at Loras.

The Kohawks led 9-2 early in the game, but Loras quickly fought back and led 35-31 at halftime. Coe kept pace in the second half, but couldn’t hold on down the stretch. Loras made four free throws in the final 33 seconds.

Victoria May scored 21 points for Loras and Kathleen Cabrera added 14 points.

Loras is 14-9 overall and Coe is 15-8. Both teams are 8-4 in he IIAC.

Coe - Women's Basketball

Hot first half carries Coe women

Coe hit 11 3-point baskets, 10 in the first half, to keep Central winless in the Iowa Conference with a 62-44 win Wednesday night at Eby Fieldhouse.

Senior Mickey Hansche hit all six of her treys in the first half, finishing with a game-high 18 points. Aleena Hobbs finished with 12 for the Kohawks (15-7, 8-3).

Kenzie Vander Molen led Central (9-13, 0-11) with eight points.

Hansche sparks Kohawks by Dubuque

DUBUQUE - Mickey Hansche poured in a career-high 28 points Saturday as Coe knocked off Dubuque, 70-56, in an Iowa Conference women's basketball game at the Stoltz Sports Center in Dubuque.

The outcome left the Iowa Conference race in a mad scramble entering the final weeks of the season. Dubuque is still in first place with an 8-2 record, but the Spartans hold only a slim one-game lead now over Coe, Luther and Loras at 7-3.

Megan Hayes collected 14 points and seven rebounds for the Kohawks (14-7 overall). Aleena Hobbs finished with her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Allie Wirth had 11 rebounds for Coe.

Jenna Kotas scored 22 points for Dubuque (14-7).
