Coe coach began swimming in Lake Erie

Brian Ruffles has been a swimmer his whole life and gets to continue that passion as head coach for the Coe swimming and diving teams.

Ruffles has coached swimming for six years and this year he was promoted to head coach for both the men’s and women’s squads.

Ruffles is from Buffalo, N.Y., which is where he gained his love of swimming.

“I took swimming lessons at a very young age,” he said. “My parents’ house was just off Lake Erie, so we would go down to the lake. My mom and dad got us involved in swimming.”

But it wasn’t until high school when he started to swim for competition.

Fitzgerald paces Coe swimmers

SIOUX CITY - Sam Fitzgerald was a double-winner in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke Saturday as the Coe women's swimming team defeated Morningside, 110-88.

Lindsay Meade (200 free), Kenni Sterns (100 fly) and Kendall Bundy (100 back) also won individual events for the Kohawks. Coe also captured the 200 medley relay.

The Coe men's swimming team lost its meet to Morningside, 144-53. Tucker Dangremond won the 100 breaststroke for the Kohawks.

Bundy, Fitzgerald lead Coe swimmers

DUBUQUE - Kendall Bundy and Sam Fitzgerald were triple-winners for the Coe women's swimming team Friday in a tight 112-107 loss to Loras in an Iowa Conference meet in Dubuque.

Bundy captured the 50 freestyle (27.16) and 100 backstroke (1:03.00). Fitzgerald claimed the 100 butterfly (1:04.21) and 100 breaststroke (1:10.66). They also swam on the triumphant 200 medley relay with Kenni Sterns and Katy Appler.

Jasmine Deng won the diving for Coe.

The Coe men lost their meet to Loras, 151-50. The Kohawks did not win any events.

Ruffles replaces Jennings with Coe swimming

Coe College Director of Athletics John Chandler announced the resignation of Kohawk swimming and diving head coach Justin Jennings Wednesday.

Assistant coach Brian Ruffles has been named the new head coach of the program.

Jennings departs to take a position as assistant coach at NCAA Division I Colgate University in Hamilton, N.Y. Ruffles has spent the last six years as an assistant to Jennings at Coe.

“It was a very tough decision to leave Coe College. There are so many great things happening here that will continue to make Coe one of the best colleges in the country," Jennings said.

Coe - Men's Swimming

Kohawk swimmers win 8 events

Andi Queisner and Lindsay Meade won two events Saturday for the Coe women's swimming team in a dual meet against Grinnell at the Coe natatorium.

Quiesner captured the 50 freestyle and Meade won the 500 freestyle, and they joined Laura Finneseth and Kenni Sterns on the triumphant 400 freestyle relay.

Kendallyn Recker claimed the 3-meter diving and Chloe Drapes captured the 200 IM for the Kohawks.

The Coe men's swimming team got victories from Cody Bauman in 3-meter diving, Tim Bosn in the 200 and the 400 freestyle relay with Logan Barnes, Aaron Buseman, Andy Cheng and Tucker Dangremond.

Grinnell won the women's meet, 181-88, and captured the men's competition 184-83.
