Faidley, Fitzgerald win for Coe swimmers

ELSAH, Ill. - Corbin Faidley and Sam Fitzgerald captured titles for the Coe College swim team at the Liberal Arts Championships Saturday in Elsah, Ill.

Faidley took the men's 1650 freestyle in 16:22.58. Fitzgerald won the women's 200 breaststroke in 2:23.84.

The Kohawks placed third in the women's 400 freestyle relay in 3:39.79 with Ayaka Okamoto, Fitzgerald, Katy Appler and Alanna Thompson.

Coe swimmers break 7 school marks

ELSAH, Ill. – The Coe men's and women’s swimming team broke seven school records during the third day of competition in the Liberal Arts Championship on Friday.

The Coe women held third place with 254.5 points after Friday’s competition, and the Coe men were sixth with 221. Luther leads the women’s standings with 548.5 points and Franklin leads the men with 531.

Ayaka Okamoto, Sam Fitzgerald, Katie King and Alanna Thompson finished second in the 200-yard medley relay in a school-record time of 1 minute, 48.64 seconds for the Coe women. Okamoto also finished second in the 100 backstroke in 57.56.

The Coe men finished sixth in the 200 medley relay in a school-record time of 1:38.75, Corbin Faidley was third in the 200 freestyle in 1:46.31, Tucker Dangremond was fourth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.00, Collin Flynn was fourth in the 100 backstroke in 53.58 and Coe was fifth in the 800 freestyle relay in 7:17.15.

Coe has broken 13 school records so far in the meet, which continues Saturday.

Coe swimmers net 4 bronze medals

ELSAH, Ill. - Coe swimmers won four bronze medals Thursday at the Liberals Arts Championship with third-place showings.

The Coe women collected three of those bronze medals. Sam Fitzerald placed third in the 200-meter individual medley (2:13.09). The Kohawks also finished third in the 200 freestyle relay (1:39.93) and the 400 medley relay (4:00.74).

Corbin Faidley placed third for the Coe men in the 500 freestyle (4:43.87).

Luther leads the women's standings with 275.5 points. The Kohawks are fourth out of 11 teams with 117.5 points.

Franklin leads the men's standings with 238 points. The Kohawks are sixth out of nine teams with 95 points.

The meet continues Friday and Saturday.

   

Coe - Men's Swimming

Coe's Sauter takes 4th in diving

ELSAH, Ill. - Justin Sauter of Coe finished fourth in the 1-meter diving event at the Liberal Arts Championship swim meet Wednesday.

Sauter, a senior, scored 296.85 points in the competition.

Sauter contributed 15 points in the team standings for Coe, putting the Kohawks in fourth place heading into Day 2 of the four-day meet on Thursday.

Coe swimmers honored by Iowa Conference

Corbin Faidley and Ayaka Okamoto of Coe College have been named the Swimmers of the Week by the Iowa Conference.

Faidley, a freshman from Des Moines Hoover, collected four victories in two dual meets last week and set a school record in the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:00.51. This is the second time he has won the conference award this season.

Okamoto, a freshman from Tokyo, won seven races in a pair of dual meets last week. This is her second conference award as well.
