Franklin, Alger lead Coe track teams

PELLA - Erik Franklin and Melissa Alger of Coe enjoyed successful days at the Dutch Triangular track meet in Pella Saturday.

Franklin won the 200 meter dash in 22.12 seconds and ran on the triumphant 4x100 and 4x400 relays.

Alger captured the shot put (11.52 meters) and discus (47.35 meters).

The Coe women got victories from Sammie Osterberger in the 400 hurdles (1:07.50), Laura Bybee in the pole vault (3.10 meters) and Nicole Gentile in the javelin (30.28 meters).

Daniel Yunek claimed the hammer throw (50.55) for the Kohawks. Anton Jones, Gicard Philizaire and Clayton Birkes ran on the 4x100 relay with Franklin. Jones, Birkes and Beau Freeborn joined Franklin on the 4x400 relay.

Central won the men's and women's titles. Coe finished third in both divisions.

Coe netters fall to tough foes

The Coe College tennis teams ran into tough competition Saturday and dropped a pair of non-conference meets.

The Coe men were topped 8-1 by Washington University of St. Louis, which is ranked fifth in the nation in NCAA Division III.

The Coe women lost to Upper Iowa University, which is an NCAA Division II school.

Noah Sprinkel won his match at No. 1 singles for the Kohawks (17-5). Jordan Ferree and Laura Birky won their singles matches for the Coe women (19-6).

Kohawks win 5 events at Norse Relays

DECORAH - Coe athletes captured five events at the Norse Relays in Decorah Saturday.

The Coe women claimed three titles with Allison Rogers in the 10,000 (44:07.21), Sammie Osterberger in the 100 hurdles (15.56) and Melissa Alger in the discus (142-9).

Daniel Yunek claimed the hammer throw for the Coe men (168-8). The Kohawks also took the 1600 sprint medley in 3:32.70 with Anton Jones, Clayton Birkes, Dray Schreiber and Beau Freeborn.

The Coe women and men both finished third in the team standings.

Coe - Women's Tennis

Coe tennis teams claim victories

The Coe tennis teams picked up a pair of victories Saturday.

The Coe men's team blanked Wartburg, 9-0, in an Iowa Conference meet in Waverly. Riley Galbraith, a Kennedy grad, won his match at No. 1 singles in straight sets. Brady Anderson, a Linn-Mar grad, captured his match at No. 2 singles in straight sets as well.

The Coe women's team clipped Ashford, 6-3, in a non-conference meet. Haley Resnick won her match at No. 1 singles, 7-6, 6-3.

The Coe men are 15-4 overall and 4-0 in the league. The Coe women have a 19-5 record.

Coe tennis teams sweep Grinnell

The Coe College tennis teams defeated Grinnell in non-conference meets at the Clark Racquet Center Saturday.

Noah Sprinkel of Coe topped Elliott Czarnecki, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1 singles as the men's tennis team posted a 7-2 victory. Riley Galbraith, Brady Anderson, Alex Bernt and Chad Moklestad also won their singles matches for the Kohawks (14-4).

Amy Sebastian of Coe clipped Virginia Purcell, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 2 singles as the women's team cruised to an 8-1 victory. Jordan Ferree, Laura Birky, Sarah Lasecki and Diannah Watson also won their singles matches for Coe (18-5).
