Mount Mercy baseball nipped by Penn

OSKALOOSA - The Mount Mercy baseball team was trimmed by William Penn,  4-3, in a Heart of America Conference game in Oskaloosa Tuesday.

The Mustangs fell to 14-16 overall and 9-11 in the conference. The  Statesmen raised their records to 22-6 overall and 8-3 in the league.

Evan Jackson had two hits for Mount Mercy. The Mustangs took a 3-2  lead in the top of the eighth, but William Penn scored twice in the  bottom of the eighth and held on for the victory.

Mount Mercy baseball drops pair

PERU, Neb. - Peru State swept the Mount Mercy baseball team, 7-1 and  4-3, in a Heart of America Conference doubleheader Sunday.

Mount Mercy fell to 14-15 overall and 9-10 in the league. Peru State  raised its marks to 13-13 overall and 10-3 in the conference.

The Mustangs collected only three singles in the 7-1 loss in the  opener. Chase Costa collected an RBI as a pinch-hitter.

Mount Mercy trailed, 3-2, heading into the top of the ninth inning in  the nightcap. The Mustangs scored to tie the game on a pinch-hit homer  by Costa, but Peru State tallied in the bottom of the ninth for a  walk-off victory.

Peru State blanks Mount Mercy

PERU, Neb. - The Mount Mercy baseball team was blanked by Peru State, 5-0, in a Heart of America Conference game Saturday.

The Mustangs saw their five-game winning streak come to an end, dropping them to 14-13 overall and 9-8 in the league. Peru State raised its records to 12-13 overall and 9-3 in the conference.

Mustangs get 2 walk-off victories

The Mount Mercy baseball team came through in the clutch Wednesday to  sweep a non-conference doubleheader from Viterbo, 8-7 and 4-3, at the  Plaster Athletic Complex.

The Mustangs won both of the games in their final at-bat for a pair of  walk-off victories.

Kobi Candaroma, Tito Berdecia, Corbin Day and Parker Johnson had two  hits for Mount Mercy in the 8-7 victory in Game 1. Owen Oreskovich  drove in three runs. Manny Olutunde and Day had two RBIs. Candaroma  and Nick Sueppel scored twice.

The opener was tied 7-7 going into the bottom of the eighth in extra  innings. Viterbo pitcher Austin Stibbe hit three batters in the frame  and plunked Oreskovich with the bases loaded to force in the winning  run.

Viterbo took a 3-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning of the  nightcap, Nick Sueppel made it 3-2 when he was hit by a pitch with the  bases loaded, then Berdecia delivered a two-run single to win the game.

Campbell shines as Mustangs roll

Dylan Campbell pitched an exceptional game for the Mount Mercy  baseball team in a 9-0 victory over Graceland Sunday in a Heart of  America Conference game at the Plaster Athletic Complex.

Campbell allowed only one hit and no runs in seven innings, with 12  strikeouts and one walk. Brady Donohue and Nathan Barnes tossed one  inning in relief to finish a three-hit shutout.

Evan Jackson, Tito Berdecia and Jake Faur had two hits for Mount  Mercy. Nick Sueppel and Faur drove in two runs. Chili Moseley, Jackson  and Parker Johnson scored twice.
