Mount Mercy baseball drops twinbill

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Mount Mercy baseball team was swept by  Benedictine Sunday in a Heart of America Conference doubleheader, 7-1  and 8-1.

The Mustangs (4-10, 1-5) collected only nine hits in the twinbill.  Chili Moseley went 3-for-7 with a double in each game.

The games were originally scheduled for Cedar Rapids, but were moved to Benedictine due to field conditions and weather. Mount Mercy served as the home team in both games.

Mount Mercy baseball splits pair

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - Tito Berdecia belted a home run on Saturday to help Mount Mercy top Evangel, 7-4, in the second game of their Heart of America Conference doubleheader.

Evangel rallied for a 5-4 victory in the first game by scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Berdecia, hitting in the cleanup spot, drove in two runs in the 7-4 victory. Evan Jackson was 2-for-4 and scored twice. Chili Moseley also had two hits and Nick Sueppel drove in two runs.

Blake Willenborg allowed only two earned runs in four innings for the victory in Game 1.

Mount Mercy baseball drops pair

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The Mount Mercy baseball team dropped both ends of  a doubleheader against MidAmerica Nazarene in the Heart of America  Conference opener Friday.

MidAmerica Nazarene swept the Mustangs, 9-2 and 3-0.

Nick Sueppel and Jake Faur had two hits for Mount Mercy (3-7) in the opener.

Tanner Lohaus gave the Mustangs a quality start in the nightcap,  allowing three runs on six hits in five innings.

Lohaus shines for Mount Mercy

MESA, Ariz. - Tanner Lohaus is making a quick transition from college basketball to college baseball.

Lohaus pitched all nine innings Saturday as Mount Mercy topped Benedictine-Mesa, 4-2, in the second game of their doubleheader in Arizona.

The Mustangs also won the first game against Benedictine, 7-4, to sweep the doubleheader.

Lohaus began his college sports career as a basketball player at the University of Northern Iowa, but he switched to baseball this year and showed his stuff on the mound Saturday. He allowed only five hits and two earned runs, with eight strikeouts and two walks.

Lohaus threw 127 pitches in the complete-game victory. Tito Berdecia had two hits for the Mustangs in the 4-2 victory. Kobi Candaroma and Corbin Day drove in two runs.

Mount Mercy baseball drops pair

MESA, Ariz. - The Mount Mercy baseball team dropped both ends of its  doubleheader against Benedictine-Mesa in Arizona Friday.

Benedictine won the first game, 7-6, in 10 innings and took the nightcap, 6-1.

Owen Oreskovich went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for the Mustangs in the  opener. Chili Moseley scored two runs.

Manny Olutunde went 3-for-4 for Mount Mercy (1-5) in the second game.  Austin Hilpipre was 2-for-4.
