Lohaus commits to Mount Mercy baseball

Tanner Lohaus looked at three college baseball programs in Cedar Rapids when he decided to leave the Northern Iowa basketball program this spring  and change sports in mid-stream.

He announced Tuesday that he'll be joining the Mount Mercy Mustangs after also considering Kirkwood and Coe.

Lohaus played baseball and basketball at Iowa City West before heading to UNI two years ago for basketball. He was red-shirted in 2016-17 and  played sparingly in seven games this past season before deciding to trade the roundball for a hardball.

Lohaus was a pitcher and shortstop in high school, but he's viewed primarily as a pitcher as he joins Mount Mercy.

Lohaus is currently playing for Red Top in the Iowa Valley League.
