Mustangs take 2 of 3 from Viterbo

In a long day of baseball at Ken Charipar Field, the Mount Mercy baseball team took two of three from Midwest Collegiate Conference foe Viterbo on Sunday.

Mount Mercy (16-24 7-14 MCC) won the completion of Friday's suspended game, 6-1. The Mustangs followed that with a 3-1 win before dropping the series finale, 6-2.

Former Linn-Mar player Ben Larson had two hits and an RBI in the completion of the suspended game. Ex-Kennedy Cougar Cody Bell had two hits and two RBIs as Mount Mercy used a four-run fourth to put the game away. Cole Henke pitched a complete-game six-hitter.

Evan Boddicker was the star of Game 2. He allowed just four hits over seven innings, strking out three. Cody Williams had two hits for Mount Mercy.

Viterbo started fast in Game 3, touching Bell for three runs in one-plus inning of work. Patrick Haney had two hits for Mount Mercy.

Viterbo is 11-28, 5-17 MCC.

Mustangs slog past Viterbo, 2-0

Austin Czerwiec threw a 3-hit shutout as Mount Mercy blanked Viterbo, 2-0, in the first game of a scheduled Midwest Collegiate Conference doubleheader on a rainy Friday at Ken Charipar Field.

Viterbo held a 1-0 lead after one inning of the second game before it was called by rain. It will be continued at noon Sunday prior to a scheduled doubleheader.

First baseman Patrick Haney had three hits and scored a run. Former Linn-Mar standout Ben Larson had two hits, driving home both runs with RBI singles in the fourth and sixth.

Mustangs drop pair to St. Ambrose

DAVENPORT - The Mount Mercy baseball team suffered a pair of one-run losses to St. Ambrose Tuesday in a Midwest Collegiate Conference doubleheader, 7-6 and 2-1.

The losses dropped the Mustangs to 15-23 overall and 6-13 in the league. St. Ambrose raised its marks to 22-18 overall and 10-10 in the conference.

Patrick Haney belted a grand slam in the seventh inning of the opener to pull Mount Mercy within a run, but the rally ended there. Haney drove in five runs in the game. Cody Williams was 3-for-3 and Jimmy Lizarraga scored two runs.

Devin Holmes went 3-for-4 for the Mustangs in the second game. Austin Czerwiec had two hits.

Mustangs waste good pitching in twinbill

The Mount Mercy baseball team got effective pitching but not enough hitting Saturday and dropped a Midwest Collegiate Conference doubleheader to St. Ambrose, 4-2 and 3-2, at Ken Charipar Field.

Austin Czerwiec pitched a complete game for the Mustangs in the first game. He allowed four runs in seven innings, with three strikeouts and no walks.

Cale Henke tossed a complete game for Mount Mercy in the nightcap. He allowed only two runs in seven innings, with six strikeouts and no walks.

Cody Bell was 3-for-4 with two RBIs for Mount Mercy in the opener. Jason Darichuk was 2-for-3.

Mustangs split pair with Statesmen

Former Kennedy standouts Jimmy Lizarraga and Cody Bell played key roles Mount Mercy as topped William Penn, 3-2, in the first game of a Midwest Collegiate Conference doubleheader Sunday at Ken Charipar Field.

The Statesmen took advantage of three Mustang errors to score three unearned runs in a 3-1 nightcap win.

Lizarraga had two hits and an RBI for Mount Mercy (14-17, 5-8) in the opener. Bell also had two hits and an RBI. Cale Henke pitched a complete game, allowing just four hits.

Devin Holmes and Jason Darichuk two hits apiece for Mount Mercy in Game 2. The Mustangs had eight hits but only managed a single run. Bell had the RBI for Mount Mercy. Evan Boddicker was the tough-luck loser, allowing six hits in 5 1/3 innings.
