Mustangs lead Ashford golf tourney

EAST MOLINE, Ill. - Jack South shot a 69 Sunday to gain a share of the individual lead and push Mount Mercy to a two-shot advantage in the team race at the Ashford Invitational.

The Mustangs shot a team total of 287 at Short Hills Country Club, two shots ahead of Ashford, which was led by co-leader Ryan Hilton who also shot a 69.

The second and final round is scheduled for Monday.

South leads Mustangs at Blue Top Ridge

RIVERSIDE - Jack South fired a 6-under-par 138 Tuesday as the Mount Mercy Mustangs captured the top prize at the Mustang '36' Invitational at Blue Top Ridge in Riverside.

South posted rounds of 70 and 68 for medalist honors. Blaine Buhr of Kirkwood placed second at 2-under 142.

Mount Mercy trimmed Kirkwood for the title, 588-593.

Selander, Mustangs 2nd at Deer Park

OGLESBY, Ill. - Mount Mercy's Jacob Selander tied for the low round of the day, shooting a 3-under-par 68 to finish in second place Tuesday at the Deer Park Classic.

Selander's two-day total of 139 was two shots behind chanpion Tyler Christians of Grand View. Selander's hot round allowed the Mustangs to jump from fourth to second in the team race. Mount Mercy's two-day total was 574, six shots behind team champion Grand View.

Warren Bynoe, who was tied for third after the first day, shot a 75 Tuesday to finish at 145 and in a tie for 11th place.

Mustangs 4th at Deer Park golf

OGLESBY, Ill. - Led by Warren Bynoe's 1-under-par 70, the Mount Mercy men's golf team is in fourth place, nine shots behind leader Grand View after the first day of the Deer Park Classic.

Tyler Christian of Grand View shot a 66 to grab the individual lead, pacing the Vikings to a 282 team total. Cardinal Stritch (286) and Ashford (289) are next, followed by the Mustangs at 291.

The tournament concludes Tuesday.
