Hempstead boys edge Xavier in OT

The Xavier boys basketball team let a 12-point halftime lead slip away and lost to ninth-ranked Dubuque Hempstead 51-48 in overtime Tuesday at Xavier.

The Saints led 16-10 after the first quarter and 32-20 at halftime before the Mustangs fought back with a 12-4 third-quarter run.

The score was tied 44-44 at the end of the regulation, and Hempstead took control in the overtime period to avoid the upset.

Michael Mims, had 17 points for Xavier (4-5), which was 2-of-2 from the free-throw line.

Avery Butler had 18 points for Hempstead (7-1), which shot 9-of-10 from the line.

Konigsmark not enough for Jefferson boys

DUBUQUE – Tyler Konigsmark had 17 points to lead the Jefferson boys basketball team in a 54-43 loss to Dubuque Senior on Friday.

Luke McDonnell had 15 points for the Rams (6-2).

Winker leads Saints over J-Hawks

Calvin Winker had 21 points to lead the Xavier boys basketball team to a 71-45 win over Jefferson on Friday at Xavier.

The Saints led 16-9 after the first quarter and 34-19 at halftime. Xavier (2-3) also made nine 3-point goals.

Mitchell Burger added 11 points for the Saints, and Tim Otting had nine points.

Valentino Green had 12 points to lead the J-Hawks (0-6), and Lucas Larson had 11 points.

Jefferson falls to 0-5 with loss

Tyler Konigsmark had 18 points and Adam Van Oort had 16 to lead the Jefferson boys basketball team in a 67-57 loss to Waterloo West on Tuesday at Jefferson.

The score was tied at 32-32 at halftime, but the Wahawks pulled away in the second half.

Lincoln Conrey had 20 points to lead Waterloo West (2-2).

The J-Hawks fell to 0-5.

J-Hawks tumble against Little Hawks

Bryce Cardis had 10 points to lead the Jefferson boys basketball team in a 49-27 loss to Iowa City High on Friday at Jefferson.

The J-Hawks led 9-6 after the first quarter, but the Little Hawks went on an 18-4 run in the second quarter.

Nate Wieland, Chuck Johnson and Loga LaFauce each had 10 points for Iowa City High (1-1).
