Big Baker game lifts J-Hawks past Prairie

Jefferson rolled to a 35-pin win in the fifth Baker game and escaped Prairie, 3052-3018, Friday in boys bowling at May City Bowl.

The J-Hawks held a 44-pin lead after singles in the first round, but Prairie whittled away and held a one-pin margin heading into the final Baker game.

Jefferson responded with a 205, while Prairie managed a 170.

Both teams shot hot, with four 400 series apiece.

Austin Kluth led Jefferson with a 472 series and 268 high game.

Nick Blood paced Prairie with a 455 series and 253 high game.

WATERLOO -- Will James fired a 451 series and Zach Ficken shot a 244 game to lead Jefferson past Waterloo West, 3054-2994, Tuesday in boys bowling at Maple Lanes,

Zach Trcka named 1st team MVC & Metro

Cedar Rapids Washington junior Quincy Bruce nabbed a couple of top honors Friday.

Bruce was named the Athlete of the Year in the Mississippi Valley Conference (Mississippi Division) and on the all-Metro team in a vote by coaches.

Prairie's Brogan Fiala also reaped a top honor. He was named the Athlete of the Year in the MVC Valley Division.

Bruce averaged 219.3 pins per game and led the Warriors to a Class 2A state tournament berth. Fiala had a 219.4 average and helped the Hawks to a 2A berth.

Justin Wyant of Linn-Mar, Zach Trcka of Jefferson, and Brandon Wagner of Prairie joined Bruce and Fiala on both the MVC and all-Metro first teams.

Dreyson Robe of Linn-Mar was first team all-MVC. Jeremy Cline of Prairie was first team all-Metro.

Washington's Monica Reeves was named Coach of the Year in the MVC Mississippi Division. Prairie's Don Wilfong and Kevin Cline earned the honor in the MVC Valley Division. Cline and Xavier's Russ Camacho were the Metro Coaches of the Year.

James and Kilts roll J-Hawks past Kennedy

Will James rolled a 279 high game and 484 series to fire Jefferson past Kennedy, 3126-2799, Tuesday in boys bowling at Cedar Rapids Bowl.

All five Jefferson bowlers rolled 400 series. Michael Kilts fired games 247 and 234 for a 481 series. Austin Kluth rolled a 425, Zach Trcka a 414 and Travis Nissen a 410.

Kyle Custer led Kennedy with games of 202 and 266 for a 468 series. Troy McKiernan had a 424.

Linn-Mar outlasts Jefferson boys bowlers

Seth Tegtmeier rolled games of 225 and 247 for a 472 series that led Linn-Mar past Jefferson, 3122-3029, Friday in boys bowling at Cedar Rapids Bowl.

Linn-Mar (6-4) held a 21-pin lead after the first round. The Lions put the meet away with a 1038 Baker round score.

Matt Wheaton rolled a high game of 255 for Linn-Mar. He also shot a 441 series. Austin Swanson had a 407 series.

Will James had high game (254) and series (447) for Jefferson (4-6). Zach Trcka rolled a 425 and Michael Kilts a 421.
