Prairie girls take 2nd in MVC meet

Marissa Meyer and Charlotte Flynn shared medalist honors with 42's Tuesday to help Dubuque Wahlert take top honors at a Mississippi Valley Conference quadrangular golf meet at Twin Pines.

Emily Machula of Prairie shot an 8-over-par 44 as the Hawks finished second in the meet. Brett Visser led Washington to third place with a 47.

Xavier girls win MVC golf meet

Melanie Wertzberger grabbed medalist honors with a 13-over-par 48 Friday as the Xavier Saints defeated Prairie and Jefferson in a Mississippi Valley Conference meet at St. Andrews Golf Course.

Amy Olberding of Xavier was the runner-up with a 49.

Furnish wins 2nd Iowa Women's title

WAVERLY - Megan Furnish of Cedar Rapids won her second straight Iowa Women's Amateur golf championship Wednesday at Centennial Oaks in Waverly.

Furnish and Christy Nelson of Central City finished the 54-hole tournament in a tie at 5-over-par 221, so they went to a sudden-death playoff.

Furnish sank a five-foot putt on the second playoff hole for a par and the victory.

Furnish, a Cedar Rapids Jefferson graduate, had steady rounds of 74, 74 and 73 in the tournament. She is a member of the women's golf team at Missouri State University.

Wash girls win MVC golf meet

Brett Visser shot a 47 Thursday to help the Washington Warriors win a Mississippi Valley Conference triangular golf meet at Jones Park.

The Warriors finished at 198, topping Cedar Falls (203) and Jefferson (244).

Haley Bermel of Cedar Falls was the medalist with a 10-over-par 45.
