Metro schools still dominate Class 4A poll

 Four Cedar Rapids-Marion Metro schools are once again ranked in the Class 4A AP poll released Monday (Dec. 13).

Linn-Mar (3-0) received all 10 first-place votes and stayed at No. 1. Jefferson (4-0) is still No. 3.  Kennedy (3-0) moved up one spot to ninth and Washington (2-1) dropped from fourth to 10th after a 58-55 loss at No. 7 Davenport West last week.

Kennedy - Boys Basketball

Cougars zap Xavier, 60-48

 Jacob Manning and Kyle Lamaak scored 15 points apiece and Christian French added 10 to lead No. 10 Kennedy past Xavier, 60-48, Friday night (Dec. 10) in a Mississippi Valley Conference opener at Kennedy.

Kennedy (3-0, 1-0) used an intense defense and dominated the boards throughout the third quarter. The effort allowed the Cougars to double its seven-point halftime lead and take control of the game.

Cougars rout Oskaloosa

 Kyle Lamaak scored 13 points and Jake Manning added 10 to lead Kennedy past Oskaloosa, 47-24, Saturday (Dec. 4) in a nonconference home game.

The Cougars (2-0) had nine players break into the scoring column.  Joe Coleman had eight and Trevor Heitland six. Manning also grabbled a team-high 11 rebounds.

Kennedy led 26-12 at halftime.

Cougars slip by Burlington

BURLINGTON — Kyle Lamaak scored 14 points and Joe Coleman added 11 Friday night (Dec. 3) as Kennedy trimmed Burlington, 42-38, in the season opener at Burlington.

Jake Manning scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Cougars. Kennedy, which struggled at the free-throw line last season, got off to a poor start this year by making only 4 of 13 at the charity stripe.
